Yeah we have about 3 teams in the wings, but they're more research based. And I don't have the resources to back a research subnet for x-time until it makes breakthroughs. Research subnets are predominantly going to be lumpy binaries. Either nothing nothing nothing then boom. Floods of revenue or just a big fish acquiring it (which is most likely). Or nothing nothing nothing then dereg. I've always pledged to subnets I support that I'll back them to the end. Yes it's not good for my portfolio, but your word is your honour. So I've ridden Vericore, Safescan, Tensorprox, Flamewire and now (most likely) Handshake into dereg.

Was super pleased Josh from SN110 @green_compute_ could come and give an updated presentation of his subnet, new developments and what's in the pipeline. Along with an insightful live Q&A. We've seen a bunch of good subnets die/dereg over the last 6 months. Teams like Vericore, Safescan and more recently, Handshake. This is just making me lean even harder into subnets that are really revenue focused. Building something innovative or cool just isn't enough, as the zero-sum-game rotational dTAO capital gets bored quickly and price slides. Once price slides to the 0.004 area, it's a very hard gravity well to slingshot out of. So my new metric I'm going to really prod new teams with is "Time To First Buyback". Revenue is fine for the company...but the alpha needs buybacks. Before even launching, we will have very clear expectations/terms of percentage of profits that go to buybacks and clear highly probable milestones to get there. I don't want to be in subnets anymore that takes 6-12 months before first revenue or first buyback. Yes it's a short term metric and in some biz cases, not a good metric. But for the safety of one's portfolio, it's a good safety metric. So I'll be watching with keen eyes how fast Green Compute can start generating new revenue and buybacks. This is your opportunity to beast it Josh!

Once you are in a death spiral, it is incredibly hard to save the spot. We managed to do it once with a massive effort and over 200 TAO spent, but the second time, it was inevitable. The liquidation price acts as the main reference point. If an investor parks capital and buys Alpha over time, they can be very profitable; however, if the price keeps falling and the subnet faces dereg, they have zero incentive to hold. If the subnet is deregistered, they will receive less TAO, so their only logical option is to sell, which creates and reinforces the death spiral. I really hope we find a better solution because we keep losing excellent subnets Vericore, SafeScan, and now Hermes. From my point of view, the solution has always been to stop the automatic dereg mechanism. If we want to keep dereg in place, it should be moved to the governance level and used strictly for the elimination of bad actors.

The masses in general are myopic to financial or business history. One, because of a widespread mental-malaise or knowledge deficit in terms of business and investing, and two, because emotions always get the best of them. So when we find ourselves in a period of heavily suppressed asset prices, fear runs rife and people flee or bury their heads in the sand. And the bystanders laugh & mock. But this is the most GLORIOUS time to prosper. It's in fearful times where real wealth is made as the tourists bugger off, leaving the strong hands and builders. And it's the builders that are able to mop up and neatly position themselves for when the market recovers. And the market ALWAYS recovers. Doesn't matter what the market is. So the Risk-of-Ruin questions I always cycle through during these times are: "What is the probability that this asset goes to ZERO and never recovers?!" - the answer is nearly always close to 0%. Then, "What is the probability that this asset goes down, but then recovers and goes to new highs (eventually)?" - the answer is nearly always north of 90%. This is especially true when it comes to Bittensor. I'm already fully allocated and committed, so unfortunately can't buy the dip. But I can help build and grow the ecosystem for the better. So that's what @MarkCreaser and I are embarking on. We were observing for a while to see if anyone was pipelining new teams into the ecosystem, but alas, no one was. So the goal is to create a systematised factory line... 1.) Put fishing lines in all sorts of areas from biz hubs to universities to influential networks. 2.) Filter through all the subnet idea proposals and have zooms with promising ones. 3.) These research type subnets take time to flower, get Product Market Fit and a congruent Go To Market strategy. Const is literally the best person to help mentor and incubate these potential world changing subs like Metanova or Safescan etc. So we are going to aim to fill a different hole... We will be focusing on rapid revenue generating subnets. (shock/horror!) It's almost a year since dTAO was launched and we still don't have a subnet that is comfortably generating more real world revenue than miner emissions. 2026 is the year that changes.
