👏 Prof. Maria-Elena Torres-Padilla, this year’s Leibniz Prize winner, has received the Bavarian Maximiliansorden for Science and Art.
Minister-President Dr. Markus Söder presented the award in recognition of her pioneering research in stem cell biology and epigenetics.
Her research explores how cells can be reprogrammed into a totipotent state – a state from which any cell type in the body can develop. This “cells à la carte” concept opens new possibilities for regenerative medicine, offering potential pathways toward future treatments for degenerative diseases and brain injuries.
💬“Maria-Elena Torres-Padilla has redefined our understanding of early development and the mechanisms that determine cell identity. Her pioneering research and creative vision continue to set new standards in stem cell biology and inspire scientists worldwide. We are proud to have her among us as a leading figure who perfectly represents Helmholtz Munich’s values of excellence, curiosity, and collaboration.”
– Prof. Martin Hrabě De Angelis, Member and Spokesperson of the Executive Board (acting), Helmholtz Munich
