Seeing is Truly Believing! At RAB Rubona Station, recent field observations are highlighting an important shift in maize production. Side-by-side plots grown under the same conditions are telling two very different stories. On one side, maize stands vigorous and untouched no visible pest damage, no chemical intervention. On the other, the familiar impact of Fall Armyworm (#Nkongwa) is clear, with weakened plants and damaged leaves. What sets them apart is not the environment, but the genetic improvement under research. Enhanced maize varieties are showing strong potential to naturally withstand pests, even in early growth stages. This kind of progress points toward a future where farmers can achieve better yields with fewer inputs, strengthening both productivity and sustainability. #RwandaBioCap #TalkBiotechRw #BioCapRwanda #ScienceForFood

The second day of the workshop organized by @ScienceAlly focused on co-creation and collaboration among stakeholders working to strengthen biotechnology communication in Rwanda. Participants worked together to identify key audiences, priority messages, and practical communication approaches that can support responsible innovation in agriculture. Through group discussions and interactive sessions, we explored how science communicators, researchers, policymakers, and media can work more closely to ensure accurate and impactful information reaches the public. It was inspiring to see the level of engagement, knowledge sharing, and commitment to advancing agricultural innovation and food systems transformation in Rwanda. Grateful to be part of this important dialogue and to contribute to shaping stronger science communication networks #RwandaBioCap #TalkBiotechRw #BioCapRwanda #ScienceForFood

Today I had the privilege to participate in the #BioCap Project Communication Induction and Stakeholder Co-Creation Workshop, a dynamic platform bringing together scientists, communication specialists, policymakers, media practitioners, and other key stakeholders committed to advancing agricultural innovation in Rwanda. The discussions strongly highlighted that science alone is not enough effective communication is essential. Strategic communication plays a critical role in strengthening public understanding, promoting transparency, and building trust in biotechnology and science-based agricultural innovations. Through collaborative dialogue, participants explored how stronger partnerships between researchers, communicators, institutions, and media can ensure that accurate, accessible, and impactful information reaches farmers, policymakers, and the wider public. As stakeholders continues to invest in agricultural transformation, strengthening communication around agricultural technologies will be key to supporting the adoption of improved crop varieties and sustainable farming solutions. Proud to be part of a generation that is not only advancing agricultural innovation but also amplifying the voices and stories behind it. #RwandaBioCap #TalkBiotechRw #BioCapRwanda #ScienceForFood

Happening now! The government of 🇷🇼 in partnership with @Cipotato through the @RwandaAgriBoard launches the #BioCap project will support the #technology in the #agriculture sector in different programs: - Plant and Microbial Biotechnology program: *Generating and disseminating enhanced tools for high yield crops. * Tissue culture laboratories have a mandate of research in tissue culture and mass production of clean planting materials. Currently, @RwandaAgriBoard has full optimize tissues culture protocols of #Banana, #Cassava, #Coffee, #Irish and #Sweetpotato. *Plant Pathology and molecular laboratory: Identification and characterization of plant pathologens. The @olivikam PS at @RwandaAgri Says that "this technology will fill the gap in seeds disseminating to the farmers, because it has capacity of producing enough seeds." No worries about safety and environment, because it standardized. #Biotech #GenesisEditing #GMCrops @Agronomme_ @EmmyGisa3 @alexnyandwii @ShimoYvette @Pacifiquens @nduwath @@Gaetan @Gaetan NZ
