🚀 Huge Milestone for Digital Inclusion in Uganda! Today, I walked into the Uganda communication Commission @UCC_Official headquarters in Bugolobi, not just as an ordinary visitor, but as a #Deaf Innovator on a mission to end the silent barriers faced by our community. According to the recent Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) 2025 @StatisticsUg, Uganda is home to an estimated 1.9 million #Deaf individuals. Yet, a massive communication vacuum still exists, leading to untold challenges especially regarding security and access to essential services such as legal, health, justice and so on. When I reached the reception, I had to type on my phone to communicate but, in that moment, I reminded myself why I built the #Deaf Access Mobile App. No Deaf person should have to rely on scrap paper or tedious text typing just to access a public office. 💡 How Deaf Access Changes the Narrative Imagine walking up to any reception, scanning a unique QR code, and being instantly connected to a professional, real-time Video Remote Interpreter (VRI) in less than 5 seconds. That is the 24/7 seamless reality our app offers via web and mobile platforms. I had the absolute honor of meeting the Executive Director of UCC, Hon. George William Nyombi Thembo @UCC_ED, and I truly found a leader who is receptive, empathetic, and ready to listen. 🤝 The Outcome: UCC Steps Up for Inclusion Hon. Nyombi Thembo was incredibly supportive of this vision. I am thrilled to share that: - UCC has pledged to support and push this innovation to serve the needs of the #Deaf community nationwide. - UCC will provide a financial support of UGX 10 Million to support the operations of the #Deaf Access App in the upcoming 2026/27 financial year! 📸 In the photos, you can see the ED signing the "Thumbs Up" (meaning "Good") and me signing the "V" sign in Frame 1. And I am profoundly grateful for where dedication, determination, and hard work have brought this vision. But this is just the beginning. True inclusion requires all of us. Let’s work together to make the world accessible for everyone! You can check out the app on our webapp: deafaccessug.org or download directly from Google Play store: play.google.com/store/apps/d… #DigitalInclusion #DeafAccess #Accessibility #Innovation #TechForGood #Uganda #UCC #DisabilityInclusion #InfraForAll #SignLanguageforAll #SOSAI

Students Create Smart Gloves That Turn Sign Language Into Voice Two students from the University of Washington, Thomas Pryor and Navid Azodi, have created SignAloud, smart gloves that change American Sign Language into text and spoken words instantly. The gloves are simple and wearable, working like a hearing aid. Small sensors track hand movements and send signals to a processor that translates them in real time. This new technology can help deaf and hard-of-hearing people communicate more easily with others. The project even won a $10,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize, and the team is now improving the gloves for daily use. #SignLanguageForAll #TechInnovation #DeafCommunity #SmartGloves #futuretechnology

🤘Sign Language Training for Officials: A Step Toward Inclusive Governance 🤘🤟In a deeply thoughtful and people-first initiative aligned with Chief Minister A. @revanth_anumula vision of an inclusive Telangana, District @Collector_KNR @PamelaSatpathy has taken a compassionate step to bridge the communication gap between government officials and persons with disabilities. ✅Recognizing that true service begins with understanding, Collector Pamela Satpathy has launched a Basic Indian Sign Language training program for district-level officials, in collaboration with the Dr. MCR HRD Institute. The week-long program is being conducted in two daily sessions and aims to empower government functionaries to truly listen to and empathize with the concerns of differently-abled citizens. ✅Sign language isn’t just a skill; it’s a symbol of respect and inclusion,” the Collector said, noting that this training would help officials understand the emotions and challenges of the disabled community more accurately and respond meaningfully. She expressed confidence that this would lead to quicker, more sensitive redressal of their grievances. ✅What makes this initiative especially commendable is its human touch. The Collector didn’t stop at training alone—she has urged officials to visit schools for the blind and deaf, and Bhavitha centers, and engage directly with the children using the newly acquired skills. It’s a move that goes beyond administration—it reflects empathy in action. ✅In the coming months, this initiative will be extended to school staff, health department personnel, and rehabilitation workers—ensuring a system-wide culture of respect and communication for the differently-abled. ✅This effort is a shining example of how governance can be both efficient and empathetic, and how leadership rooted in human dignity can bring lasting change. 👏 A heartfelt appreciation to Collector Pamela Satpathy for showing how government can see with the heart and listen with humanity. @TelanganaCS #InclusiveTelangana #SignLanguageForAll #HumanCentricGovernance #CMRevanthReddy #PamelaSatpathy #EmpathyInAdministration #AccessibleIndia #DifferentlyAbledRights #TelanganaModel
