What an uplifting early afternoon I spent in North Liverpool today. I popped in to the
#Bootle #bookshop oasis that is @kingsleyandco_ and had a great catchup with @ykidsbootle CEO
@claire.morgans.98 . It was fabulous to see the fantastic
#Literacy and
#community offer in motion there, complete with a talented harpist playing festive tunes, children dressing up and role-playing, a broad spectrum of people enjoying the ambience of the cafe and of course book galore for incredible value. As I was searching for books to buy as presents (most for others, one for myself), a confident young girl dressed as a cross between a knight and Cinderella said I looked like an author. I said I was. And that she looked like one, too. She added that the brilliant
@judelennonbooks had come to her school this week. I performed a bit from my
#LiverpoolLiverBirds poetic picture book for her and her sister. Her mum and nan bought it. We chatted. I thought about the speech @frank_cottrellboyce made at the opening of the bookshop recently saying that everything here is created with love. He is right. I reflected on my visit to
#SpellowLibrary earlier in the day where I returned some books on
#JeanMichelBasquiat and exchanged them for
#Beatles ones for my current illustration commission for
#LiverpoolFamousWalkingTours. There was a lot going on there, with
@clairebeerjeraz delivering writing workshops for #@wow_fest and writer
@helenjeffery01 was there, too. I thought about my work with the
#anfield community at @liverpoollighthouse this year with
#CreateArt and the positive events that are going on and ongoing on
#Merseyside. Please get out if you can and get involved in these positive spaces and activities.
