Illegal 15,000 Sq Ft Studio Complex at Rashid Compound, Next to Mary Matha Church Office, Kherani Road, Sakinaka, Mumbai Under Scanner.
Ward 158 has become a glaring example of failed enforcement, residents allege. Despite repeated issuance of Section 351 notices and claims of action by BMC officials, a massive illegal studio complex at Rashid Compound, next to Mary Matha Church Office, Kherani Road, Sakinaka, Mumbai – 400072 continues to expand. Citizens are asking: if official notices cannot stop construction, then what purpose do they serve?
⚠️ 10,000 Sq Ft Structure Grows Into Larger Commercial Complex
According to local sources, the original unauthorized structure exceeding 10,000 sq ft remains standing and operational. Sources further claim that two additional structures, estimated at nearly 5,000 sq ft combined, have recently been constructed adjacent to the main building, taking the total alleged illegal development to more than 15,000 sq ft for an upcoming studio project.
🚧 Fresh Infrastructure Work Raises More Questions
Residents allege that new sewerage lines, toilet connections, washroom facilities and related infrastructure have been laid for the expanded premises. Footpaths in the vicinity have also reportedly been damaged during ongoing works, raising concerns about public safety and misuse of civic infrastructure.
❓ Serious Allegations of Administrative Protection
According to sources and local residents, repeated complaints have failed to result in effective enforcement action. Allegations are being raised regarding the conduct of concerned officials, including Ward Officer Dhanaji Herlekar, DO In-Charge Sachin Belder and AE In-Charge Dudhbhate. Sources claim that despite visible expansion of the structures, no substantial enforcement action has followed. These allegations remain unverified and warrant an independent investigation
⚖️ Demand for Anti-Corruption Bureau Inquiry
Residents and activists are demanding that the Anti-Corruption Bureau conduct a thorough inquiry into: • The handling of Section 351 notices
• The alleged failure to stop ongoing construction
• The expansion of the project from over 10,000 sq ft to an estimated 15,000 sq ft
• Newly laid sewerage and washroom infrastructure
• Damage to public footpaths and civic property
• The role of all concerned officials, contractors and occupiers.
🚨 Public Confidence at Stake
Citizens argue that while small violations often face immediate action, large-scale unauthorized commercial developments continue to flourish despite repeated complaints and official notices. Activists are now demanding immediate site inspection, demolition of unauthorized structures if violations are confirmed, and strict action against anyone found responsible for enabling or protecting illegal construction.
