Paragraph 4, Tenth Schedule (Anti-Defection Law) of the Constitution of India. An MP or MLA will LOSE THEIR SEAT or be DISQUALIFIED under anti-defection law UNLESS their original political party MERGES with another party; and
They either:
*Join the new/merged party, or
*Refuse to join the original merger. Crucial condition is that the original party HAS TO MERGE with another party or THEY HAVE TO MERGE with another party. NO LEGAL PROVISION of a ‘separate group’ inside Parliament or inside the assembly while sitting on a MP/ MLA seat previously won on the ORIGINAL PARTY’s name and symbol. The LAW IS CLEAR. NO “ SEPARATE GROUP” inside the House on the same symbol is legal. MERGE with a new party or be DISQUALIFIED. Else your membership of the House - parliament or assembly - is ILLEGAL.

Why is @TiceRichard on @BBC this morning commenting on defence investment?
And why is he arguing that the Government should prioritise military spending over public welfare, when polls consistently show that many people want greater investment in public services, healthcare, housing, and support for citizens alongside any defence commitments?
At a time when so many people are struggling with the cost of living, surely the focus should be on improving people's lives at home, not treating welfare as something that should take a back seat to warfare.
It's also worth asking what people mean when they call for increased defence spending. While some of the defence budget is rightly spent on protecting the UK, our airspace, territorial waters, and critical infrastructure, a significant amount is also spent on activities beyond the direct defence of the UK itself.
This includes maintaining military bases overseas, deploying forces around the world, participating in NATO operations, supporting allies, intelligence and surveillance activities abroad, military exercises in other countries, supplying equipment and training to foreign armed forces, and supporting countries involved in ongoing conflicts, including Ukraine.
If politicians and commentators are going to accuse the Government of not spending enough on defence, they should be absolutely clear about what that additional spending would actually fund. The public deserve full transparency on how military budgets are allocated so they can make an informed decision about whether they support spending more on warfare rather than welfare.
When people are told that defence spending must increase, they should be given a detailed breakdown of where that money will go. Will it be spent defending the UK, or will it be spent on overseas deployments, foreign military support, weapons procurement for international commitments, and wider geopolitical objectives?
These are legitimate questions, and the public deserve honest answers before being asked to choose warfare over welfare.
