I was honoured to speak today at the National Conference on Workplace Protection in the Public Sector at the
@KSGKenya , where we discussed the importance of advancing safe, dignified and respectful workplaces across our institutions.
The conversation around ILO Convention 190 is ultimately about people; the teacher preparing for class, the nurse on shift, the officer on duty, the social worker in the field, and every public servant who deserves to work free from violence and harassment.
As Government, we have a profound responsibility as Kenya’s largest employer. Creating safe workplaces is not only a labour issue; it is directly connected to service delivery, public trust and institutional accountability. When civil servants feel protected and respected, citizens experience more responsive and effective public service.
Kenya has already taken important steps through nationwide consultations, policy development and ongoing institutional reforms. Equally important is the role of leadership in shaping workplace culture every day. This is possible through the standards we uphold, the conduct we model and the environments we create for others to thrive.
I appreciate all stakeholders, partners and participants who continue to contribute to this national conversation. Building workplaces grounded in dignity, respect and accountability is a shared responsibility — and one we must continue to pursue together.
