Legislators keep pushing statewide
#panicbutton mandates tied emotionally to
#schoolshootings and catastrophic emergencies.
But vendors’ own data shows these systems are used mostly for day-to-day school operations:
Florida reportedly:
44% student behavior
23% drills
13% testing
1% campus threats
A recent vendor post:
70% student behavior
9% elopement
8% physical altercations
If
#schoolleaders want panic buttons for operational and behavioral response purposes, fine.
But don’t mandate them as anti-shooting emergency tools when the actual usage data shows otherwise.
#Schoolsafety policy should be driven by transparent data, not fear-based lobbying.
