the current API is LiquidHandler is the interface to all liquid handlers, Incubator to all incubators, PlateReader to all plate readers etc. This is not scalable
It helped us grow to ~60 contributors (v0), but is showing cracks

Paging all colleagues using cell-based/pharmacology assays: Does anyone have recommendations for a multi-mode platereader (BRET, FRET, etc.)? Most current literature is using discontinued instruments, and I can't wrap my head around the dozens of options (Tecan, BMG, MD, ...).

Needed to do 96 wp platereader anaerobic cultures but the machine is not built for that. Then I thought: no headspace = no oxygen right? So I filled the wells to the brim and stuck PCR seal over it and BOOM it worked! Data below 👇

if it is supposed to be completely walk away there need to be some stuff besides the pipetting robot. It would need tecan to add a platereader module for normalisations and a computer for basecalling and analysis.

For academics, "platereader" is the obvious answer:
Workhorse.
Can do LOTS of things at once.
Will communicate with you through obscure software.
Has problems handling unusual requests.
Slightly burnt out.
