Those "unmolested data" results came from the now-defunct sqlroots.com. Pic 1: The sqlroots method. Pic 2: Uneven station distribution. Pic 3: The highly variable number of stations/year. Given this info, can you identify two big problems with the sqlroots method?

OK, pic 1 shows the sqlroots method, pic 2 shows a Google Earth view of the GHCNd station distribution, & pic 3 shows the # GHCNd stations/year. So what could possibly go wrong here? I'm like totally scratching my head over this. Will Jimbo be able to suss this one out for us?

Still scratching my head at that one. Sqlroots used GHCNd (pic 1). Pic 2 shows my GHCNd global temps (GISS land temps for reference). Clearly, GISS & I made similar mistakes with our processing. But I can't figure out what we've been doing wrong. Can Jimbo set us straight?

Temperature.global’s methodology is even worse than sqlroots’. At least sqlroots performed baselining at the sensor level (albeit incorrectly).

(For the benefit of others here), the "unmolested" GHCN plot (upper left) comes from sqlroots.com/ghcn/ Sqlroots uses the FUBAR algorithm (favorite of climate "skeptics") to compute its results. Who can identify the big baselining blunder?

The procedure used to produce that plot is described here: sqlroots.com/ghcn/ . There's a fatal baselining blunder, the kind of blunder that would prompt a professor to tell his/her student to start over from scratch or fail. Who can flag the blunder? Hint: it's a goodie!

My guess? Missing baseline data. Stations still active are more likely to be missing early baseline data than "historical" stations are. Due to baseline-period warming, the still-active stations would have higher baselines, reducing the warming trend. Sort of "sqlroots lite".
