To me -- maybe I'm wrong -- Rexx is a scripting / glue language.
Yes, it can be a full blown programming language.
But it seems to be used a lot like shell in Unix.
IMHO glue languages tend to end up being used more creatively.
I think it's amazing what motivated people can and will do on any system if they are given access and tools (building blocks) to do so.
This creativity is what I consider to be the real hacker mentality.
Years ago I wrote some rexx that created awstape files. I would then take DDR (a z/VM disk utility - not the former East Germany) dumps of disks to real (or reel) tape and convert them to awstape before moving them to the zPDT and "mounting" them for a DDR restore.
