🇺🇸 We welcome the latest @USTreasury sanctions against individuals and entities in China and #HongKong facilitating illicit weapons procurement for Iran. As Hong Kong continues to be used to move arms to Tehran and critical tech to Moscow, strict enforcement is vital to close these loopholes and deter future evasion, especially in the case of a Taiwan conflict. reuters.com/business/finance…

🚨 Hong Kong Watch strongly condemns the enactment of the Safeguarding National Security (Procedural Matters) Regulation, which grants #HongKong Chief Executive John Lee the power to certify any criminal case as a national security matter. This law was passed without due process, and aligns with the anniversaries of 4 June, 9 June and 12 June, which all underscore the need for fundamental freedoms in the city. We urge the international community to take immediate action to hold those responsible to account. hongkongwatch.org/all-posts/…

This week, our Policy Director @megan_khoo attended a private roundtable hosted by C4ADS in Brussels, where they examined how open-source data analysis can combat 🇨🇳 digital surveillance. Read their latest report below👇

Beijing’s push to build a “digital China” and increase the development of data centers relies on both domestic and Western tech — including from companies like Dell, Intel, and Nvidia. New C4ADS analysis maps these networks in the Uyghur region, supporting broader state monitoring initiatives. 1/3 Read Hardwired Repression 👇 c4ads.org/reports/hardwired-…

President Trump should make clear that negotiations will not proceed, and Xi’s visit to Washington will be postponed, without the release of several political prisoners, including Jimmy Lai, Pastor Jin, Gulshan Abbas, and others. My latest with @OliviaEnos in @dcexaminer

Productive meeting with @eu_eeas to discuss our briefing on 🇨🇳’s monopoly on rare earth minerals, #FreeJimmyLai, and proposed legislation in #HongKong that would allow the Chief Executive to deem any crime a national security offence.

Thank you to our Patron @jameswnaish for writing to @MikeTappTweets on the impact of new ILR requirement on #BNO's ability to withdraw #MPF savings. 13 months on since the immigration reform was proposed, @GOVUK must clarify that the original requirements offered to BNOs will be maintained - at the earliest opportunity. Prolonged uncertainty over ILR requirements is affecting thousands of British Nationals, as they try to plan careers, university study, and retirement.

Today, our Policy Director @megan_khoo launched our new briefing on the 🇪🇺's exposure to 🇨🇳's monopoly on rare earth minerals in Brussels. With 100% of the EU's processed rare earths originating in China, closing the gap on this dependence requires faster supply-side delivery, demand guarantees, and credible deterrence.
