I've been trying to put my best efforts to voice out for the protesting Sanitary workers of the
@chennaicorp for the last 11 days ,against their unconstitutional layoff by the state . 1953 workers of two zones working under
#NULM have been sacked over night by july 31st and are left without a livelihood.
The workers are mainly widowed single Dalit women . Who is being coerced by Mayor Priya and minister Sekar Babu (Who is minister of CMDA and HRCE,who is in no way connected to the Chennai sanitary workers ).
They are being forced to join as outsourced employees with a private player who has acquired the solid waste management tender in an unconstitutional way with the Greater Chennai Corporation.
This also poses a challenge to the reservation system which DMK "claims" to be a frontrunner of .
And there are 9000 such workers under NULM who are affected by this policy of the state .
The workers are tented outside the Chennai Corporation office in the centre of the city ,with their kids , suffering in heat and rain ,with no toilet facilities.
I had been at the protest regularly and never witnessed any mainstream political party fight for their cause .But had mobilized a few movements and individuals to support.
Therefore when a mainstream party like Naam Tamilar Katchi of Tamilnadu extended their support to the Protest and conducted a big protest event yesterday,I participated as a guest and spoke on the rights of the sanitation workers .
I was given immense love from
@vennilaVT and
@Sunandha_TS who invited me . The party leader Annan Seeman is truly dedicated to the cause and welcomed me with open arms to join in solidarity to voice out for the sanitary workers .
Went as a guest but felt at home with the solidarity given by the party and its co-ordinator Mr
@Seeman4TN who is tied up to the cause by ideology , heart and ethics.
I demand
@CMOTamilnadu to hold talks with the workers union and make Municipal administration minister KN Nehru meet with the delegation.
Dignity of labour must be upheld.
Jai bhim !
