Both Porter and Air Canada already fly out of both airports. Pearson just broke ground on a $3B expansion. We don’t need a $5B lake-fill project at Billy Bishop that will undermine Ontario Place, the Islands, the Port Lands, and the waterfront. This push exists because Nieuport Aviation (backed by J.P. Morgan Asset Management) bought the terminal from Porter in 2015 — and it’s not delivering. Traffic remains well below pre-COVID peaks (~1.75M vs 2.8M). Ford’s former Deputy Chief of Staff, Mark Lawson, has been lobbying hard for Nieuport and he has Ford’s ear. A better idea: Swing bridges on the Eastern Western Gaps for ped/bike/trolley access. This would open up the entire waterfront from the Beaches to the Humber. Turn the Islands (tied to the Port Lands) into a world-class car-free park like NYC’s Central Park or Chicago’s Millennium Park — year-round tourism, recreation, no more ferry bottlenecks. Waterfronts are for people, not runways. Toronto has aspired for decades to be a great city but consistently screws it up. Let’s finally do something to make Toronto a city we can be proud of.

There is another extremely relevant angle to this. When Ford signed a $5.5B with a U.S bank for the islands, $9B to Hitachi U.S OntLine, Lecce's $21B Hitachi U.S reactors and $140M U.S Hospital facade all those deals removed those amounts from OUR GDP. Ford is working against us.

If you’re genuinely afraid of the WEF or the WHO, I need you to understand something, you’re a sucker, and you’ve been tricked into fearing a conference and a committee. The WEF is Davos. It’s a ski resort in Switzerland where billionaires and politicians eat expensive food, take photos together, and agree that inequality is bad actually. It produces no laws. It has no army. It cannot make you do anything. Klaus Schwab is not your supervillain. He’s an 86 year old German academic who writes books nobody buys and hosts a yearly networking event for people who are already powerful enough to not need the networking. The WHO is 194 member countries occasionally agreeing on health guidelines that those same countries then ignore whenever it’s politically inconvenient. It is chronically underfunded, routinely overruled, and has less enforcement power than your municipal bylaw office. These are not hidden rulers of the world. They are PowerPoint presentations with a budget. The people who have you scared of these organizations do not want you asking where your actual problems come from. They don’t want you looking at your own provincial government, your own city council, your own grocery chain, your own landlord. It’s a lot easier to fear a Swiss ski resort than to engage with something you can actually do something about. You got played. It happens. But you should probably know.

The Toronto Port Authority is holding their AGM on June 11th. I read their Financial Statements - and they raise big red flags about their hasty support of Doug Ford’s plan to bring jets to Billy Bishop Airport: 1) Ridership is down at Billy Bishop 2) Billy Bishop is relying on higher operating fees to prop up revenue 3) Based on current revenue, they’d have to forego any profit for between 80-300 years to pay for the expansion 4) Based on their 2017 Environmental Assessment, the decision was made against introducing jets, and those conditions have gotten worse - not better Here’s my letter to the Toronto Port Authority. The public deserves answers to the following questions:

I wrote to Prime Minister Carney today. Doug Ford said Canada wasn't for sale. Then he rammed through the Billy Bishop expansion – pushed by an American company tied to JP Morgan. Toronto's waterfront is being handed to Wall Street. The expansion can't proceed without federal approval. Prime Minister, don't approve it.
