Never let anyone tell you that journalism doesn't generate change. In November I revealed that Dutch Police reports undermined West Midlands Police's justification for banning fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv from Birmingham. I also spoke to the Mayor of Amsterdam who disputed their account of events in her city involving Maccabi fans. Further scrutiny exposed more inaccuracies. - Their 'intelligence' report cited a football match that never happened. - They were forced to apologise for wrongly telling MPs that this wasn't the result of a "hallucination" by artificial intelligence. - They also retracted claims that the Jewish community backed their decision to ban Maccabi fans. Today, after scrutiny by journalists like myself and @Gabriel_Pogrund and the tenacity of parliamentarians like @NJ_Timothy and @LordIanAustin , some accountability has finally been taken and the chief constable has decided to leave his position early.

From the sentencing remarks - which this foul woman Gyll King would rather ignore - because she's so blinded by her politics:
No spines were shattered at Filton. The officer walked unaided from A&E. Later a small, hairline fracture to the transverse process (the bony projection that sticks out from the side of a vertebra) was identified & the officer was advised to take paracetamol. Truth matters.

Description by @libertyhq of what Palestine Action activists did at Elbit Systems as “civil disobedience” is a gross distortion of reality. They caused £1.2m damage, left staff in fear, and one activist attacked a police officer with a sledgehammer, fracturing her spine.

Incredible contempt for our special forces shown by a member of the governing party.
Replying to @kitty_donaldson
Female Labour MP: Carns is “just another bloke, albeit one who’s probably killed someone with his bare hands... I guess if the Leader of the Free World is building a cage fight on his lawn, maybe we need a special forces cage fight in Downing Street.”

This week the most advanced AI model on the planet got switched off by a foreign government. British researchers were studying it. British companies were testing it. British hospitals were piloting it. Not any more. This isn't an AI story. It's the story of every industry we used to lead. Britain has some of the best AI talent in the world. DeepMind was built here. Our AI Safety Institute writes the rules other countries follow. We have the researchers, the universities, the standards. What we don't have is the power stations to run the data centres, the planning system to build them, or the industrial base to make the chips. So the work happens here and the value lands somewhere else. We invent. Others build. Others decide. Then we read about it on Saturday morning. Same story as the kit our soldiers don't have. Same story as the factories we used to. I spent nine months in government making this argument inside the room. I'll make it louder from outside.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

While I do accept that @carolecadwalla does know something about journalists harming their own reputations, the idea that she can sit in judgment on @TrevorPTweets is risible - it’s like Erich von Daniken dissing Niels Bohr
This is such a smart hire by Bari Weiss & a reputation-destroying one by Trevor Phillips whose mouth one can only presume was stuffed with gold.

NEW: Armed Forced minister also quits x.com/alistaircarns/status/2…

We owe those who serve the UK the kit to do the job and the loyalty to stand by them when it's done. We are failing on both. I’ve spent my whole time in government making that case. Number 10 will not listen, so I am resigning as Minister for the Armed Forces. Letter to the PM below.🫡🫡🫡⬇️⬇️

Blistering criticism from Carns of the NI legacy bill: “The same instinct, that serious problems can be managed rather than faced, runs through the Northern Ireland Legacy Bill. I have worked to fix the Bill from the inside, but it remains unfit for purpose. It risks failing the very veterans it claims to protect. Men and women I served with, those I buried friends alongside, people who did their duty under conditions most individuals in Westminster will never have to imagine.”

PUNCHY! Yesterday I said that allying with Greens in local government could harm the Lib Dems in winning over Tory voters in marginal constituencies. I wrote that: "I suspect that the Conservative attack unit will be looking very closely at what material the councils they run will be able to provide for future leaflets." But it is Labour's Al Carns who is first to attack both the Greens and Lib Dems for the Birmingham coalition. And he doesn't hold back.
A Green councillor called Hamas founders "martyrs". The Lib Dems made him cabinet member for children and families. Birmingham deserves answers.

Barbara Castle famously never had any time to write anything!
Punchy comments from Lucy Powell at Think Labour tonight. I hear she spoke about politics being dominated by “three men”, said women in politics don’t have time to “write essays”, and argued they are often left to clear up the mess...

Incredible. Given what is going on in defence and the world more broadly this is… quite something.
NEW: Andy Burnham has hinted at a new multibillion-pound spending commitment if he becomes PM, saying that more than 3.5mn women “deserve” compensation over what he regards as a pension scandal Earlier I attended a Makerfield hustings event hosted by @MENnewsdesk, in which Burnham said: “I stick by campaigners that I support. I stuck by the Hillsborough families, I’ll stick by the Waspi women because they deserve some recompense for the unfairness.” Stressing he wouldn’t ditch his longterm support for Waspi women, he said he felt “uncomfortable” that some politicians threw their support behind a cause but then went into government and “didn’t do anything” ft.com/content/1021ae5f-aab3…

Jimmy Corry has lived on this Belfast street for 13 years. Now he’s homeless. He’s lost sentimental items forever, including his dad’s possessions. He told me that he shares the anger many feel about the attack on Monday night but that burning down houses won’t solve anything.

Ash described the 2011 riots that saw an Ealing pensioner punched to death by a looter as “taut, tense, purposeful” and added that they showed the “explosive power that can be unleashed when marginalised people see themselves reflected in each other’s struggle”. I suppose it’s ok to torch people’s homes, as long as it’s done by marginalised people?
So it's ok to torch people's homes, as long as immigrants live in them?

Quite apt in this case...
Graham Platner just won his primary Democrats voted for a guy who: - had a nazi tattoo - lied repeatedly about his nazi tattoo - said he would rape people - sexted with women while married - bragged about drawing penises in porta potties - praised islamic terrorists - said he’s a communist - joined an app known to be used by predators to contact minors

"Change medication." Carolin Bohl was murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7. In a new article, her mother recounts the harrowing details of her final moments. She also speaks about the humiliation she faced in a room with UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and many Free Palestine activists. In response to a post with the quote, Francesca's writes to a mother who lost her innocent child, "Change medication." This is not some random person spreading hate on the internet. This is a United Nations Special Rapporteur, who would rather post a retort to a grieving mother than condemn terrorists who murdered, raped, and kidnapped civilians.
