The way the British state measures carbon emissions is narcissistic and dumb. The UK is rejecting projects that *reduce* global CO2 and create jobs in Britain. Until we fix this in the Treasury’s Green Book, worthwhile projects will continue to receive negative scoring. In our latest @britishprogress Substack, @pdmsero & I look at the Government’s carbon accounting system, and highlight how: 🌍 We fail to consider *global emissions*, which means projects are only scored on emissions produced in the UK. 🔀 We fail to consider counterfactuals: whether a project will go ahead elsewhere if it doesn’t happen in Britain. ⚡ We fail to consider the impact of Britain’s grid, which has decarbonised more rapidly than peer countries, and means projects here are less emitting than those elsewhere. ⚖️ We assume that every other country has defined carbon budgets (they don’t) and are sticking to them (they aren’t). All this means we have made up rules for ourselves that harm British industry, and harm the planet: 🗄️ Investment in UK data centres gets scored negatively, even though data centres built in Britain are far less carbon-emitting than those built abroad. 🛫 While we argue about airport expansion, other countries (with lower environmental standards) are building at scale. British families fly longer, more carbon-intensive routes via Dubai, Amsterdam and Istanbul. There is no such thing as ‘CO2 🇬🇧’, a Britain-specific carbon molecule. The climate is blind to where emissions are produced. Until we acknowledge this, Britain, and our planet, will continue to lose out. Read the full piece here: britishprogress.substack.com…

Well, my day took a detour. Late last night the rear window regulator broke, leaving the window stuck down right before a trip to Pennsylvania. Mission critical. Drove to Rockville, grabbed the part from Tesla, ripped the door apart in my driveway, and fixed it myself. Sometimes you just have to figure it out and get it done. Now onto PA. 😤

Freelander 8 SUV in China - Best photos so far New photos of the Freelander 8. There's a lot of buzz around this SUV in China - mainly caused by its cool & boxy design, - Size: 5118/2050/1898, 3040. - Power: EREV. 115 kW 1.5 turbo two electric motors. - Top speed: 220 km/h. - 60.3 kWh NMC battery. Electric range: 221 km. - Towing: max 2000 kg. - 21 inch wheels standard, 22 inch optional. - active aero in the nose and bumper. - clearly visible lidar in contrasting color - am interesting choice. Most Chinese brands try to hide the lidar. Off-road: i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system. Front mechanical differential lock, rear e-LSD limited-slip differential, virtual center lock, and a closed dual-chamber air suspension. Launch in July. EV-version will join the lineup later. Freelander is a new Chinese brand under Chery-JLR.

Global grid battery additions (#BESS) have grown from around 1 GW in 2015 to 112 GW in 2025. BloombergNEF expects annual deployments to reach 228 GW by 2030. My Structural Transition Case is considerably more aggressive, reaching 919 GW by 2030, around 4x BloombergNEF's outlook. Why? Because batteries are no longer a standalone market. Their growth is increasingly being driven by the success of solar. More solar creates more midday oversupply and curtailment. More curtailment improves the economics of storage. More storage then enables even more solar. It's a powerful feedback loop. ☀️ Solar drives curtailment. 🔋 Curtailment drives batteries. ⚡ Batteries enable more solar. ☀️ More solar creates more curtailment. Add falling LFP costs, China's manufacturing scale, accelerating electrification, increasing energy security concerns and AI-driven electricity demand, and the case becomes even stronger. LMFP is waiting in the wings, offering higher energy density than LFP, while sodium-ion is queuing up behind it with the potential for even lower-cost stationary storage. Cost curves don't care about opinions. They have a habit of blowing straight past linear projections, as the solar industry has demonstrated repeatedly over the past two decades. They just keep falling. And disruption keeps accelerating. 🔋⚡📉 #BatteryStorage #BESS #EnergyTransition #SolarEnergy #LFP #LMFP #LMR #SodiumIon #Bettrification

To me this is mainly a standards issue. Low sales do not remove the need for a safe design, and if Tesla adapts it for Europe, it can be assessed like any other vehicle.
I tihnk it's crazy that Tesla isn't allowed to sell Cybertruck in Europe. I know it has to do with some pedestrian safety nonsense but the reality is that since Tesla wouldn't sell many of them anyways because it's too expensive and Europe isn't a strong pickup truck market that the few units sold would have a rather low probability of hitting a pedestrian. If Tesla sold 10K units after a year it would represent about 0.003% of the total European vehicle fleet. In other words: the probability of a Cybertrack hitting a pedestrian in Europe would be astronomically small.

People forget that when Tesla FSD was first sold it only did highways/interstates, but Tesla promised it would do city streets. I personally bought it twice with the hopes I could one day use it for point-to-point driving. It was HUGE when they finally launched that capability to customers. The Rivian Autonomy rollout is no different. Capabilities are currently limited to mostly highways/interstates and recently they added city streets lane keeping. They are using Gen 2 and R2 vehicles to capture city driving data to enable the launch of the point-to-point update later this year.

Would you like to visit a country known as the "Land of Fire"? 👇 1. 🌋 Azerbaijan contains nearly half of all the mud volcanoes on Earth. These unusual formations erupt mud and gas instead of hot lava. 2. 🔥 Yanar Dag, or "Burning Mountain," has been on fire for centuries. Natural gas rising from the ground keeps the flames burning continuously. 3. 🍚 Shah Plov is considered one of Azerbaijan's most famous dishes. It combines saffron rice, meat, fruits, and nuts inside a golden crust. 4. 🏙️ The Flame Towers are the most recognizable buildings in Baku. Their LED displays light up the skyline with giant flame animations at night. 5. 🥖 Traditional Azerbaijani breakfasts are large and designed to be enjoyed slowly. Fresh bread, cheese, honey, eggs, and qaymaq are common favorites. 6. 🍵 Tea is an important symbol of hospitality in Azerbaijani culture. Many people enjoy it by holding sugar in their mouth rather than mixing it into the tea. 7. ⛰️ Xinaliq is one of Europe's oldest mountain villages. Its residents have preserved a unique language spoken nowhere else in the world. 8. 🧶 Carpet weaving is a treasured national tradition passed down through generations. UNESCO recognizes it as an important part of Azerbaijan's cultural heritage. 9. 🐎 The Karabakh horse is famous for its endurance, intelligence, and golden-colored coat. It is considered one of the country's national treasures. 10. 🛕 The Ateshgah Fire Temple was built over a natural gas vent near Baku. It attracted Zoroastrian and Hindu pilgrims traveling along the Silk Road. #Azerbaijan #WorldFacts #TravelFacts #DidYouKnow #CultureFacts

I used to think CarPlay was essential. The more I watch how people actually use their cars, the more it seems we just want nav, media, and controls to work smoothly. Build that well and the CarPlay panic lasts about five minutes.

My friend bought a Cybertruck for $29k.. Sounds unbelievable, but heres what happened afterwords.. When it arrived, the truck was completely dead. - No power - No steering - had to be jump started with a Fisker 🙃 he went to work: - A couple pyrofuses - A new battery - Some Tesla Toolbox wizardry Then he added some replacement doors on ebay, self installed and wrapped The final cost? $35k all-in for a fully functional AWD Cybertruck Would you drive a "cheap" Cybertruck for $35k?

This video is confirmed playing on screens in the waiting areas of Tesla service centers.
A Model Y driver started experiencing a medical emergency with chest pain mid-drive & called his son. His son then remotely rerouted the car – which had FSD Supervised enabled – to the nearest hospital & let them know the vehicle was en route. ER staff were standing by on arrival. Doctors later confirmed the quick reroute likely saved his life.

I always enjoy engineering stories where one small design change makes a big difference you can actually feel. That is when innovation gets really interesting.
