Futures Workshop # 3 on Shifting Geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific & Middle Power Autonomy turned into a live policy lab, with each table engaging distinct scenarios and crafting strategic recommendations under expert facilitation. Table A, guided by Dr. @adilsultan , with Scenario A: Indispensable Pivot examined a US-led entrenched order where middle powers actively shape outcomes. Pakistan emerging as a key stabilizing actor, tensions rising in US–India ties, CPEC 2.0 accelerating, and Pakistan transitioning out of the IMF program. Amb. @Masood__Khan also shared his expert opinions on the scenario. A strong exercise in translating geopolitical futures into actionable policy thinking. @ovesanwar @khansheharyar
The Indo-Pacific is entering a period of geopolitical flux. As major powers compete and middle powers seek greater strategic autonomy, what futures lie ahead? StrafAsia's 3rd Futures Workshop will explore the possibilities — from regional order and alliance dynamics to #strategicforesight and policy pathways. 📅 8th June 2026 By invite only. #IndoPacific #Geopolitics #MiddlePowerAutonomy #InternationalRelations . . @Aiza_Azam @adilsultan @f_aider

Recent comments from Trump make it clear that the attack on Iran was less about nuclear capabilities threat and more about putting pressure on all the neighboring Muslim countries to recognize Israel and join the Abraham Accord. We have already seen the fall of the rules-based international order and now the world power expects to override the foreign policy, national security and domestic sentiments of these countries to push its own agenda. Too big an ask.

This should be an international scandal. It completely invalidates the UN and its legitimacy.
⭕️ Palestinian UN ambassador drops vice presidency bid after U.S. pressure Palestinian U.N. Ambassador Riyad Mansour is withdrawing his bid for vice president of the U.N. General Assembly, NPR reported, after the U.S. threatened to revoke visas for the Palestinian delegation if he did not stand down. A State Department cable instructed U.S. diplomats in Jerusalem to warn Palestinian officials that Mansour’s candidacy “fuels tensions” and risks undermining Trump’s Gaza plan, adding: “We will hold the PA responsible if the Palestinian delegation does not withdraw its VPGA candidacy.” The cable noted that visa sanctions previously waived for Palestinian U.N. officials could be reinstated. The Palestinian delegation relayed, through an Arab country, that Mansour would refrain from running for the next two years, in what observers described as a potential reference to the end of President Trump’s term. Lebanon’s ambassador will take his place, the U.N. said. Mansour had previously withdrawn his candidacy for the full presidency of the General Assembly following U.S. pressure in February, according to Reuters, which obtained the State Department cable.

BREAKING! Trump announces, after having had phone calls with the leaders of Saudi, UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain - and separately with Israel - a deal between the US and Iran, subject to final approval, has essentially been reached. If you were wondering why warmongers in Washington have been freaking out, it's because of this: Peace is their nightmare. A few points: 1. Trump knows he will be attacked for this deal. The regional anchoring of this deal is not only important for its viability on the ground, but it also gives him a degree of protection in Washington. Obama managed to get massive international backing for his deal, but limited to lukewarm anchoring in the region. 2. Trump uses "The Islamic Republic of Iran," instead of just Iran, which will be noticed in Tehran. 3. Trump says he also spoke to Netanyahu and that the call "went well." The absence of details is interesting here. In summary: The two sides have not crossed the finishing line yet, but it is now visible and within reach.

Thank you my friend. Appreciate the kind words. Happy I could flex my animation muscles again.
@ovesanwar my Brother, Outstanding work 👏 This is easily one of the most insightful and timely explainers on the Strait of Hormuz I've come across. You masterfully break down Iran's layered arsenal, from the lightning-fast Heydar-110 boats and deadly Maham-3 mines to Qader missiles and Shahed drones, and how they all feed into a sophisticated strategy to dominate this narrow chokepoint. The way you connect the military tactics with the broader geopolitical game, especially how the Strait has become central to the US-Iran confrontation, is brilliant. What really stood out was your balanced take on the ‘Tehran Tollbooth’, analyzing its practical effectiveness while rigorously examining its lawfulness under international law. In a world where ~20% of global oil and LNG flows through this strait, your explanation of the massive ripple effects on energy markets, global trade, and everyday economies is both sobering and essential viewing. This isn't just analysis, it's a public service in a time of real volatility. Deeply researched, clearly presented, and urgently relevant. Thank you for producing such high-quality, accessible content! Aag hai Aag 🔥

What this means is that essentially, out of every Rs 1 that FBR collects, 57.5 paisas go directly to the provinces. The federal government runs on what remains: 42.5 paisas. From that 42.5 paisas, Pakistan funds its entire defence budget, all federal pensions, and all federal development spending (Sankey chart attached). And if provinces collect more than expected in any given year, that money stays with the provinces. What this means for federal finances: For a 10% rise in defence → FBR must grow 4.2% For a 10% rise in PSDP → FBR must grow 1.7% For a 10% rise in pensions → FBR must grow 1.8% For all three together → FBR must grow 7.7% in a single year Is this a structure that still fits Pakistan’s fiscal reality? Let’s first understand what it is. 🧵
The biggest problem with the NFC award (which once you include AJK and GB and other payments comes to 62% of the divisible pool) is that as you try to address the federal deficit, who enrich the provinces and impoverish the people even more. For example, to finance a deficit of Rs 10, the federal government has to impose additional taxes on citizens of Rs 25, and give extra Rs 15 (or 60% of taxes) to the provinces, which are already in surplus. This extra Rs 15 then enables provinces to buy private jets, escalate the price of pipeline and road projects and have their leaders build palaces outside Pakistan. And the people of Pakistan have to pay 18% tax on soap, packaged milk, clothing, pencils and edible oil and are getting poorer due to heavy taxation.
