Looking at adding WC mixing to 2x UFH and 1x rad zone to try and use up biomass electric buffer tank more slowly. Anyone got suggestions for good standalone WC/mixer controllers for UFH systems? @RichMWPHS @Damon_BPHR @swebster56

(The board on the boiler can control a mixer directly and can do PDHW so planning to use the boiler controls for the rad zone / DHW, but the UFH zones would then be cascaded off this. Trying to compare cost/benefit of separate controllers versus a 2nd boiler wiring centre.)

It's extremely frustrating to have to repeat basic facts in order to counter egos and interests...but I'll say it again: Using bioenergy, in this case, converted to biogas, for heating at scale, is not a good or even possible option for heating in the UK (thread).

Absolutely brilliant stuff - a mega thread on the history of coal power in Britain from @EngineerLondon You’ve come a long way baby…
A few minutes ago, Unit 4 turbo-generator at Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station desynced from the GB grid system, marking the END of electricity generation from COAL after 142 years 🇬🇧🙏🏻 @RobBurnett92 and I present a 🪡🧵on the evolution of coal fired power from 1882 to today 1/n

In just over a week, Eliza Fricker (@_MissingTheMark) and my book When the Naughty Step Makes Things Worse will be published. It's about parenting, when your child doesn't respond well to anything that the 'parenting experts' tell you to do. Starting with 'put them down drowsy but awake', passing quickly (and disastrously) through the Naughty Step and Time Out and onto 'firm and fair boundaries' or 'just take away their iPad'. It's parenting, for children who just haven't read the parenting manuals. It's one of those books which might never have happened, if it wasn't for a serendipitous but often unexpected series of events. Due to covid, my family moved to Hove in 2020. My first book came out in 2021 and I joined Twitter. I don't know quite how Eliza found me but soon we were connected and I was seeing her fantastic illustrations in my Twitter feed, showing just how it feels to be the parent when nothing is going the way that you planned. Then it turned out that she lived twenty minutes down the road, and she invited me to meet up to talk about a podcast she was working on. We sat outside a cafe, socially distanced, and talked. The podcast was made. At around this time I was working on my second book and I suddenly thought how much better it would be with some of Eliza's illustrations. We added them in at the last minute. Later, in another cafe, we were talking about low demand parenting, and we had an idea for a series of webinars. Written by me and illustrated by Eliza, they would combine psychological knowledge and theory with lived experience and empathy for the very challenging job that parents do. They would be down-to-earth, relatable and chatty, the very antidote to the events which Eliza had attended (and had found unhelpful) when her child was really struggling. We would aim to give parents hope and the energy to carry on. The Art of Low Demand Parenting webinars started in Dec 2022 and were immediately popular. We covered the topics parents asked us about - screens, food, behaviour, communication. And the other side of it - the worries, the guilt and the judgement which is never far away. What it's like to be a parent when your child doesn't behave in the way that everyone expects. By the next summer we had put in a book proposal and I was working late at night again trying to get it all done. And now we are finally getting to the final strait. It is going to be published next week. We would love you to preorder it and if you do, you will get a free ticket to a special webinar we are doing to celebrate the book. Here's how. 1. PREORDER WHEN THE NAUGHTY STEP MAKES THINGS WORSE FROM ANY BOOKSELLER. 2. SEND US THE PROOF OF PURCHASE on naomifisher.co.uk/is-it-all-… 3. GET A LINK FOR A FREE WEBINAR PLACE (PLUS RECORDING).

Any of my tweeps familiar with BYD batteries? Got 5x Premium LV on an off grid Victron system. Low sunshine so the genny kicked in on Sat, then part way through charging the BMS sets the charge current to 0. @kenbone44 @electrician_247 @glynhudson @ArtElectrics @BYD_BatteryBox

It looks like the min cell voltage was falling and so it was revising the SOC estimate down very quickly. It let the Victron charge it a bit yesterday but then stopped, and now the SOC and min cell voltage is falling by itself. Faulty unit? One battery undervolt? Too cold?

What’s a #BlackStart? Well it’s NOT an outage, power cut, loss of supply, localised fault, blown fuse, shutdown, trip, fault. It’s a TOTAL shutdown of the power system, with the desynchronisation of all power stations. It’s DEAD 😵 We have NEVER had one. So relax folks ☺️ [1/20]

Anyone on here know anything about fuel tank sensors? Need something that will work with a Victron Cerbo GX, reliable/accurate and not too pricey. Is shop4tanks.co.uk/product/wem… alright or do I want an ultrasound one with a GX Tank 140? @JezClimas @RichMWPHS @ScottishGasMan

We used to say Brexit was like watching your local library being burned down by people who can’t read and now it has actually happened.

🚨 We are witnessing the RAPID replacement of GPs with non-doctors Ppl who’ve NOT studied medicine- yet are permitted to diagnose & treat undifferentiated patients in 1° care NHSE are telling the public they NEED these roles due to a “GP shortage” This is a lie. We have thousands of unemployed GPs right now. There’s no shortage of GPs. Only a shortage of JOBS for GPs. They WANT to replace GPs - the question we deserve an answer to is WHY?! 1) Why are GPs being made redundant & replaced by ppl with SIGNIFICANTLY less training 2) Why are patients’ rights to see a doctor being taken away? 3) Why is this being done without public consent?

Across the board, an almost gravitational pull towards third parties at this election - as Tory seats went towards Lib Dem and Reform, and Labour seats went towards Green and Independent

It seems to me that the portrayal of the Labour win as shallow because of the vote share is misleading. This was a ‘get the tories out’ election. For different people that generally meant voting Labour, Lib Dem, Green or Reform. But in doing so they all knew they’d get a Labour government and did it deliberately. In reality even Reform voters actually voted for Keir Starmer to be PM.

In case people need a reminder of who to vote for on Thursday, here is a list of top 50 things @UKLabour managed to do between 1997-2008. 1. Longest period of sustained low inflation since the 60s. 2. Low mortgage rates. 3. Introduced the National Minimum Wage and raised it to £5.52.

Brexit was won not just by those who voted but by those who didn’t. The Tories are now fighting a voter suppression campaign hoping that if millions don’t vote because they think everyone else will they can squeak back in. The polls mean nothing. It is all about voting on the day. Vote them out. Defeat their STOP THE VOTES strategy. Inflict the SUPERBEATING they deserve
