But the biology behind HIPEC is actually brilliant 👇 🛡️ The barrier problem The peritoneum acts like a force field. IV chemo struggles to cross it. 💡 HIPEC bypasses this completely. Chemo is placed directly inside the abdomen. Result 👇 🧪 20–1000× higher local drug concentration 🩸 Minimal systemic exposure 😌 Less whole-body toxicity than equivalent IV doses 🔥 Why heat it (~42°C)? Think of washing a greasy pan 🍳 Cold water fails. Hot water works. Heat helps in 3 ways 👇 🔥 Deeper penetration (≈2–3 mm into tissue) 🔥 Cancer cells are heat-sensitive 🔥 Heat boosts chemo potency (especially platinum, mitomycin) Heat doesn’t replace chemo. It amplifies it. 🥊 The one-two punch 🚜 Surgery removes what the eye can see 🚿 HIPEC clears what the eye cannot Macroscopic disease out. Microscopic disease neutralized.
