An early 12th century service book was re-used and inadvertently saved when a paper valuation of the monastery's property at the time of the dissolution in 1540-1541 was protected by using a few folios of the old manuscript. (WCM C871)
ALT The page is divided into two columns of large text in black ink. Every paragraph has a large coloured letter. On the left column these are blue A, then red, D then green S then s mixed red and blue I. On the right column is a red G, then gold O, then red E. The Gold letter is an especially large O and is infilled with decorative foliage that is not painted- suggesting possibly unfinished work? The overall look of the page work and is very colourful.

A letter from King Charles I in 1642 to the newly promoted Bishop of Worcester ordering him to give up his canon's place at Christchurch Oxford and the rectory of Ewelme, because the King has someone else to take over as reader of divinity at Oxford (WCM D21).
ALT The letter has the king's signature at the top. There are no illustrations. The date is given on the top right corner. The main body of the text is in one large paragraph. The document is made of paper.
