When members of the press don't do basic research and use the arrest of one Black man to drag another through the mud, it seems to me like this is an intentional attack on our community and Black-led nonviolence work in Baltimore and across the country.

Despite historic progress, we continue to lose far too many residents to gun violence here in Baltimore and across the country. These are families that will never again be whole, young people who will never get the chance to grow into their best selves, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, friends and family. This National Gun Violence Awareness Day we stand together against violence in our communities and recommit ourselves to the work of advancing public safety across our neighborhoods.

New research: Baltimore's Safe Streets program is associated with a 42% drop in youth homicides and 21% fewer nonfatal youth shootings. It's the first study to examine community violence intervention programs specifically for youth violence impacts. 🔗publichealth.jhu.edu/center-…

Collaboration and partnership are at the heart of the historic homicide and nonfatal shooting reductions we are seeing as a city. This isn’t a coincidence. It is all of Baltimore working together to address our most deep-rooted issue from every angle.

Baltimore has seen progress driving down shootings and homicides. The 133 homicides and 311 non-fatal shootings we saw in 2025 were both historic lows.

When I hear people ask if GVRS is saving lives, I share Da’wan’s story. This strategy is working and is proof of what is possible when we invest in this life-changing work. I am proud of Da’wan and of every resident who has accepted our help and made the decision to change their life for the better.

An amazing day and demonstration of partnership — thank you Senator @ChrisVanHollen, @RepKweisiMfume, @RepJohnnyO, and @Sen_Alsobrooks for delivering these resources for Baltimore that will allow us to sustain and continue expanding the Group Violence Reduction Strategy.
I say it all the time, Baltimore has the best Federal Delegation in the country. Despite massive cuts at the federal level, we have been able to secure $1.18M in federal investment to support and expand GVRS and strengthen the work that is already helping to drive down violence and save lives across our city. Thank you to our Federal Delegation and all of our partners who keep showing up for Baltimore.

I’ve seen Baltimore experience four homicides in a day - even the span of a few hours - countless times. April just saw 4 homicides for the entire month, a single-month, all-time low for the records we have going back to 1970. @alex_mann10 reports thebanner.com/community/loca…

Earlier this month, we announced additional funding to expand our 9-1-1 Diversion infrastructure. Ensuring that we are delivering the right response at the right time for every call. Thank you again to the best Federal Delegation in the country for making this possible and for always believing in Baltimore.
I was joined by Mayor Brandon Scott and City Council President Zeke Cohen to announce more than $1 million in funding to expand Baltimore City's 911 emergency diversion program. The funding will embed more clinicians at call centers and provide crisis intervention training for officers to ensure that every 911 call gets the most appropriate response. #Baltimore wmar2news.com/news/region/ba…

FWIW, there is a story -- a positive one -- about crime and Balt City in our new UMBC Poll numbers. I looked back at the polling I did for the @BaltimoreBanner in 2023/2024 & compared to our new UMBC Poll. Perceptions of crime in the city have changed:

Effective immediately, Maryland state government employees are BANNED from using inside information from their jobs to make money on prediction markets. Government officials should never be able to participate in prediction markets. It creates a conflict of interest for officials and encourages them to work for the markets and not their constituents. My executive order makes sure no one in my administration will be able to line their own pockets through predictive markets.

FY27 highlights: ✅ An additional $1.8M State appropriation to support Safe Streets and frontline CVI work. ✅ $2.5M from the State and $1.1M in City funds to expand and sustain GVRS. ✅$2.45M from the City to fund hospital- and school-based violence intervention programs.
MONSE Director Mavronis joined @MayorBMScott , City leadership, and residents last week to discuss the City's FY27 budget, which makes key investments that sustain Baltimore's violence prevention and intervention initiatives.
