I’m not a fan of VLC. It’s got: - huge attack surface (anyone remember the arbitrary code execution from a malformed subtitle?) - bad tone mapping - bad subtitle rendering - high resource usage It's 2025. Use a MPV derivative, or madVR if you want to go wild.

Just to add some additional clarity to the whole WordPress situation: Matt has publicly stated that WP Engine either had to give 8% of their revenue (which would be tens of millions of dollars per year) to his for profit corporation that’s raised nearly $1 billion dollars in venture capital, or hire a legion of developers to be paid by WP Engine but essentially report to Matt to do whatever he wants them to work on at no cost or expense to him. His so called “offer” to WP Engine was either an 8% tax, or buy him developers that he can dictate what they work on. These were his demands, either pay his mafia fee or give him equivalent resources to control just to exist. While I do believe companies should contribute to open source projects, they should never be forced to do so under threat of extortion. Does this seriously sound reasonable to anyone? Is there any open source project in the world who demands anyone who uses their open source project pay an 8% tax? Didn’t think so.

So what’s the acceptable way of referring to that CMS which is on a rampage burning its own ecosystem? Voldapress? Wordmort? #WPEngine #wp

I've been using #WordPress for a really long time. Since about 2004 I think. Never have I seriously thought about moving to a different CMS...until today and this BS with blocking WP Engine sites. Matt is an existential threat to WordPress and the community.

Please don't buy into the "you never need to reboot Linux" meme, if you actually care about security, apply regular updates and reboot your system. Especially for a publicly facing server, every single system accessible with a public IP is constantly being attacked

Yeah, this is where people go wrong in OSS. They assume people are acting altruistically and should give freely of their time and resources. When in fact most people are more selfishly doing what interests them for their purpose and then sharing it, often to further their purpose or to get recognition. There's a lot of selfishness being exploited for the common good.

And what that is basically assuming you can fork and beat the community. Assuming you will build a new community. Assuming you have the resources to reinvent the wheel. @rawkode
