As I visited Arlington, VA, this past Thanksgiving week, I went to a @Starbucks that had its beverage delivery table organized with the letter ranges below (white font with green background). As an optimizer, I couldn't help but think: "Who chose these ranges? Are they optimal?" This morning, while sitting at the UM Campus Starbucks, I wrote and solved an optimization model to pick the 3 best name ranges (displayed in yellow font). As I suspected, Starbucks AIN'T DOING IT RIGHT! 🤣 (The on-campus store has shelves with 8 name ranges, which I'll optimize next.)
