It is literally insane simultaneously to think that 16 and 17 year olds are mature enough to vote but not mature enough to look at Instagram at 8:30pm. This is comically absurd.
🚨 NEW: Keir Starmer will introduce nightly social media curfews for 16 and 17-year-olds as part of the Government's social media ban [@thetimes]

Dear Lush (cc Chelmsford City Council), As a woman who had half a breast removed last year due to cancer, I am writing to raise my concerns about your “Proud of My Stripes” window display. I am also, on behalf of other women who have experienced breast cancer, respectfully requesting its removal. Because mastectomies are not a fashion statement, an identity marker or something to be celebrated. They are something women undergo because they are ill, because they are frightened, because they are trying to stay alive. Around 59,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year. Many will undergo surgery - a mastectomy, lumpectomy or other procedure. Others choose preventive mastectomies because they carry a high-risk BRCA gene mutation. If a woman chooses to have her breasts removed to affirm a gender identity, that is her personal choice. I honestly don’t know the number of women who have elective mastectomies for this reason. What I do know is that it is a tiny number compared with those for whom breast surgery is medically necessary and not something to be celebrated. I think I speak for many women who have experienced breast cancer - and for their families - when I say this: Breast removal surgery is not something I regard as cute, playful or empowering. Nor is it something I believe retailers should be celebrating. For that reason, I am requesting that the display be removed and that @ChelmsCouncil apologise for promoting it on social media. Yours sincerely, Janet Murray

Good to see a clear focus on improving women’s mental health from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. ✅ accurate language and use of word “woman” ✅ accurate definition of woman in line with Equality Act and Supreme Court ✅ focus on women throughout the lifecycle including puberty, pregnancy, post-partum and menopause ✅ focus on addressing VAWG and providing trauma informed care ✅ calls for single sex accommodation accross all mental health inpatient settings, with focus on PICU (psychiatric intensive care) as a starting point rcpsych.ac.uk/improving-care…

But .... England doesn't have a King
Hi Frances, I know it was 4 yrs ago, but your memory lets you down. You asked to see me on the day that I attended the Privy Council to choose the next King of England. My minion, as you called her, apologised & offered other dates. Not a coward, just busy - like many womenđź‘‘

If you're going to oppose delivery of our manifesto pledges, you really shouldn't have put yourself forward as a Labour candidate.

Every single person who still cringes at the memory of trying to bullshit their way through an interview or exam question: today, the slate is wiped clean. Set down your burden of shame. Nothing - nothing, I say - could touch this.

Stop wasting parliamentary time. The code elaborates the law. It cannot change it. If you want to remove well-established equality & sex discrimination legislation, campaign to change the law. Also, find a different political party. @UKLabour supports equality legislation.

Concerns about Brighton's WellBN GP surgery were first raised with the NHS in 2020 and the GMC in 2021. Today, in 2026, an independent investigation delivered its highly critical verdict. Gender-distressed children have been failed by the NHS again 👇newstatesman.com/politics/he…

The @UKLabour party declined to properly brief either its 2024 GE candidates or, subsequently, its new MPs about the law on sex and gender. Nor were the new intake adequately briefed about the party's 2023 policy pivot against self-ID and in support of single-sex meaning biological sex. This mistaken "say nothing, avoid this topic" approach has contributed to the current muddle and misapprehensions. However, these ill-informed EDM signatories who still cling to the policy of self-ID are not a majority within the PLP & they absolutely do not reflect the majority of Labour voters & members - who support the SC ruling. Our work to educate all our party's parliamentarians continues... And we also point out - SoS @bphillipsonMP & @10DowningStreet have approved & laid the @EHRC code to enter the statute book in July, after the current 40 day period. #TheLawIsTheLaw

“New rules” @EmilyThornberry? It’s statutory guidance. Surely you know the status of statutory guidance? Surely you understand it’s not law? And that if it’s blocked the law will simply remain the law? Incredible if not.
I've joined more than 120 colleagues in signing this EDM to reject the EHRC Code of Practice. Trans people deserve love and equality. I’m worried these new rules won't achieve that. We need a proper debate in Parliament on them, and what they mean for our trans constituents.

A Labour voter all my life (71 now) but I have never felt as ashamed of @UKLabour as I do now, watching MPs queue up to explain why they’re abandoning women, proving that they’re happy for my granddaughters to have fewer rights in future than I have had. Wretched cowards all.

The rest of @michaelpforan's talks should go ahead. Freedom of speech is a fundamental academic freedom and it must be upheld. Equally, legitimate and lawful protest has an important place in university life. The task is to maintain both. Especially at events open to the public like this, it is an important Oxford tradition that any disagreement is expressed in a civil and respectful way.

Enough is enough. Female prisoners have committed serious crimes and should be punished. But they should not be put in danger. The Supreme Court ruling was clear that sex means biological sex. Labour must immediately remove all men from women’s prisons and shut down E-Wing at HMP Downview.

Bottom line: the Code was never going to depart from what the judgment said. It is simply not possible. The Code is guidance to the law. The judgment is the law until such time as parliament changes the legislation.

Due to escalating disruptive protests, I have decided to cancel the remainder of these lectures. This is deeply lamentable, but the disruption has undermined the academic nature of this series. Students shouldn't face bullying or harassment when attending academic events.
I’ll be lecturing some of the themes in Sex, Gender Identity, and the Law Fridays for the next four weeks starting tomorrow: Venue: The HB Allen Lecture Theatre, HB Allen Centre, Banbury Road, Oxford Time: 17.00-18.30 Dates: 29 May; How Sex Changed 5 June: Single-Sex Spaces 12 June: Gender Critical and Gender Identity Belief 19 June: Sexual Assault by Deception

Oh dear, not even the names of the three rules
"I'm not going to go through... an exam on the fiscal rules." Andy Burnham, Labour candidate in the Makerfield by-election, refuses two times to tell @vicderbyshire what the fiscal rules are, but confirms he'd stick to them if he became prime minister. #Newsnight
