Even though it was cut short, I had an incredible roundtable with business leaders, farmers, and community stakeholders in Washington County on the Working Families Tax Cuts. We highlighted permanent death tax and small business relief, $1,000 baby accounts, and other key provisions from this historic bill, which give employers the certainty they need to plan, grow, and create more jobs while helping workers keep more of what they earn.

I’m grateful to the Senate and House Republicans and the Democrats who joined them in passing an updated continuing resolution to reopen the government.  For over 40 days, Democrats allowed our military, federal employees, and low-income Americans to be used as political leverage. While it should never have gotten to this point, I am relieved the shutdown has ended and that the federal government can resume its essential work on behalf of the American people.
