The irony of this when denying visas left, right and centre
“Oh Balogun is just playing for the U.S. because he couldn’t make the England squad”…Folks, that is the entire promise of our nation. Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. And then we’ll beat your ass with them.

You can't be this much of a whiny bitch if you are going to be the face of the league. Folding like a piece of paper. @Tariq__Saleh - have a word with your boy.
A Knicks fan claims Victor Wembanyama had him kicked out of a $20,000 Ritz-Carlton penthouse during the NBA Finals after a friend allegedly told Wemby, “Good luck tonight, big guy,” per @nypost The fan says his group spent $750,000 on Game 4 tickets and was removed from the hotel just minutes after the interaction. The Ritz-Carlton and Wembanyama’s agent did not respond to requests for comment. (Via nypost.com/2026/06/13/sports…)

Rice isn't world-class as he doesn't get into the PSG team, for example. Saka isn't world-class and isn't one of the three best in his position. James can't stay fit. Bellingham, you can make an argument for but is debatable. Kane is the best no.9 in the world.
This couldn’t be further from the truth, world class is top 3 in your position: Harry Kane is a top 3 CF Declan Rice is a top 3 CM Jude Bellingham is a top 3 #10 Reece James is a top 3 RB Bukayo Saka is a top 3 RW At the very least, there’s 5 world class players with players like Marcus Rashford, Elliot Anderson and Nico O’Reilly all on the fringes.

What the American TV networks want, the American TV networks get
They aren’t even hiding what these hydration breaks are about. It’s 75 degrees under a roof at SoFi, the announcer says “that’s the end of the first quarter,” and then it’s straight to commercials. The game is gone.

'Who are you going to believe? Me? Or your lying eyes?'
Official attendance figures reflect the number of tickets scanned and spectators present within the stadium footprint, rather than visual assessments of seating occupancy at any given moment during the match. FIFA works closely with stadium authorities and ticketing teams to ensure all published figures are based on verified operational data. Please note that, during last night’s match in Guadalajara, several ticketed fans could be seen standing in concourses rather than staying in their assigned seats throughout the match.
Community note
Photos from the match show thousands of empty seats throughout the stadium, contradicting the claim of only several fans in concourses. nytimes.com/athletic/73524… yahoo.com/news/world/art…

These are the dark days for Sky Sports News - no World Cup rights, nothing else of note is really happening, so have to talk about something that hasn't happened, but might.

I know exactly where this is - right next to our office - and I will be pushing a cyclist off a bike if they don't stop.

The reality is cycling lobby groups believe this is OK as nobody is getting hurt and if they did it would not be serious. This is a day to day event unfortunately… I see it first hand while cycling . … often being shouted at if I ask others to stop. We need to do so much better …..🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴

I have been to the US numerous times - rampant consumerism isn't 'absurdly wealthy', it's just that every single thing is viewed through a metric of 'dollar value'. If it isn't worth something, it is immediately discarded, and that goes for people too.
All of these “Europeans experiencing America for the first time” stories have a common theme: Every single one of them is a European experiencing for the first time how absurdly wealthy the United States is compared to really anywhere else in the world. It underpins them all

Not disparaging. Wildly inaccurate though.
Did ITV's Jon Champion just make a disparaging statement about the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, in his commentary?

Why do that when you can have it in a stadium in the middle of nowhere that no one can get to?
DEEPLY frustrating that the 2026 World Cup Final won't be at the Azteca. Look at it. It's a football cathedral.

My 18th birthday was the day before my English A-level. Had some cake and did some revision. Suck it up.

When Russia hosted the World Cup in 2018, it had to suspend normal visa rules for the tournament. Foreigners with tickets could enter visa-free, using a scheme called ‘Fan ID.’ Russia also had to do weird stuff to keep FIFA’s sponsors happy. For example, small shops near Fan Zones and stadiums could only sell Budweiser beer on match days. So yes, FIFA absolutely does dictate conditions to host governments when it suits FIFA. Infantino pretending otherwise is nonsense.
Infantino was asked by a BBC journalist if he's embarrassed by what has come to pass and does he accept he's lost control of his tournament here. His response: “in 2035, the Women’s World Cup, I think, will be in the UK. Would you find it normal that FIFA will dictate to the British government who to let in the country and who not to let in?” #FIFAWorldCup

And the Mail would be the first to have a go at the BBC if they had gone
The ITV World Cup set is incredible, stunning view of the Manhattan skyline. Puts the BBC to shame. Cost-saving arguments are understandable, but the World Cup is the pinnacle of football - the location of the primary public service broadcaster should showcase that.

Happy World Cup Day one and all!

Infantino is just Trump without any of the charm. Utterly useless human being.
Infantino currently arguing that World Cup average price of $500 for all games (even group games) is fair enough because Knicks play offs games are expensive. Oooook

David Lammy’s proposals to restrict the right to jury trial have been examined by the Justice Committee of the House of Commons. And. Well. Um. It’s *quite* the report. I think it’s actually worse than politely scathing. It’s embarrassing 👇🏼🪡🧵
