On this Mother’s Day, the Afghan Women Activists Coordinating Body (AWACB) sends its deepest respect and solidarity to mothers around the world — especially to the mothers who continue to fight for dignity, survival, and the future of their children under war, oppression, displacement, and injustice.
Today, while many celebrate with flowers and family gatherings, countless Afghan mothers spend this day in fear, grief, exile, poverty, or silence. Some have buried their children in war. Some watch their daughters being denied education and their sons growing up under extremism and violence. Some are imprisoned inside their homes simply because they are women.
Afghan mothers are not only victims of oppression — they are the backbone of resistance, courage, and survival. They carried families through decades of war. They protected hope when the world looked away. And even today, under one of the most misogynistic regimes in modern history, Afghan mothers continue to resist with dignity and strength.
This Mother’s Day is not only a celebration. It is also a reminder.
A world that speaks of human rights while millions of mothers live under terror, hunger, forced displacement, and gender apartheid cannot call itself truly just.
We call on women around the world to stand together — beyond borders, languages, and politics. The struggle of Afghan women is not an isolated struggle. It is part of the global fight for freedom, equality, dignity, and humanity.
No mother should fear for the future of her daughter because of her gender.
No mother should watch her child grow up under extremism and violence.
No mother should be erased from public life because of ideology.
Today we honor every mother who continues to love, protect, resist, and survive against all odds.
To the mothers of Afghanistan and to mothers everywhere:
Your courage is stronger than oppression.
Your voice is stronger than silence.
And your fight for your children’s future will never be forgotten.
