A major severe weather outbreak is possible tomorrow across parts of Illinois and Indiana, with the potential for strong tornadoes, destructive winds over 80 mph, and very large hail. Meanwhile, a tropical disturbance in the Gulf is expected to bring flooding rain, gusty winds, and isolated tornadoes along parts of the Gulf Coast. Multiple high-impact weather threats are unfolding at once. #tropicalstorm #Gulfcoast #tornado #illinois #indiana

The National Hurricane Center is debuting an updated tropical cyclone forecast track cone for the 2026 hurricane, which includes U.S. inland watches and warnings and uses a single transparent shade for the entire 5-day forecast. In this video, NHC Warning Coordination Meteorologist Robbie Berg and Senior Hurricane Specialist John Cangialosi explain how the cone is created, and what it can and cannot tell you about a hurricane forecast. For more information on the forecast track cone and other 2026 product updates, please visit noaa.gov/news-release/nation… Video credits: Lisa Bucci, Cassandra Mora, and Maria Torres

Quick edit showing some of the intense moments today while documenting 8 tornadoes in northern Illinois into Indiana. Massive shoutout to @skydrama for nailing the forecast in the warm sector. Hands down the craziest tornado outbreak I've ever documented. Full video will be released in the near future on the @thestormreel YouTube page. #ilwx #inwx #tornado #outbreak

They actually did put it in the POD for Friday, our first "possible" of the season
It begins. This is NOT a very favorable setup for development, but with the remnant tropical low from TS Cristina plus a couple days over the Bay of Campeche, a quick spin up is certainly possible. My question is…will it wrap up enough for us to fly it??

So I was too late making a decision on chasing to get to this one so I tried the system further south. It never organized. I learned a lesson- when your gut tells you to chase, you chase.
A public information statement was issued earlier today discussing detailed findings from the NWS Tampa damage survey for the tornado impacts in Pasco County on Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2026. #flwx #tornado

Super El Niño… what does that mean? It depends on timing!

Receding glaciers in Alaska are leaving behind destabilized cliff faces that can cause massive tsunami waves — this is not theoretical. The last one just happened in 2025 and resulted in the second biggest tsunami wave ever recorded by scientists. I was on a ship in Tracy Arm, in this exact location, in September 2024. “This is how it happened: On August 10, at 5:30 in the morning, an entire mountainside at the mouth of the receding South Sawyer glacier detached, falling into the ocean and producing a monster wave. At its peak, the wave raced up over 1,500 feet on the opposing wall of the fjord — a height taller than Kuala Lumpur’s twin Petronas towers.” This is incredibly scary, considering the lack of environmental observations we have throughout these areas in Alaska AND the large volume of tourists that sail through them on cruise ships. With sparse data, we can’t even begin to think about forecasting these events, which seem to be increasing in frequency as much as ~10-fold in recent decades. cnn.com/2026/05/06/climate/s…

👏👏👏 great job @tlynnr85 ! For those who may not know, we have a comic book series called Seekers of Science and have given out over 1 million copies worldwide, everything up to this point has been out-of-pocket, so we are trying a GoFundMe for the next issue
