In our new study published in #JCCAP, pregnant adolescents with strong sense of trust/closeness with a parent during pregnancy experienced more emotions like joy, confidence, & calm. These positive prenatal emotions uniquely predicted better birth outcomes bit.ly/3uxza

🚨 New pub! We examined experiences of cultural taxation and racism in clinical psych programs! If we want to diversify the field, we need to better attend to toxic racial climates that push people of color out! 🚨 @equity_scholars @JCCAP_Editor tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

The initial result from @denver_care published in JAMA Psychiatry! We saw a huge reduction in depression following our brief prenatal intervention funded by NIMH @NIMHgov. Follow the link to read more.
A randomized clinical trial of prenatal interpersonal psychotherapy showed rapid decreases in depression. Depression in the intervention group dropped from 37% before intervention to 6% after (vs. 26% in control group). ja.ma/41wX7Ki

New paper alert! We show the intergenerational impacts of mothers' exposure to adversity during her childhood AND pregnancy on children's early mental health - once again highlighting the critical role of trauma #prevention and #intervention across generations.
Our new national @ECHOChildHealth findings (N=1948) in @sppejournal show maternal exposures to #adversity/#stress during her #childhood & #pregnancy independently predict offspring #pediatric #mentalhealth at age 5, but ALSO interact to exacerbate risk. 1/ link.springer.com/article/10…

My colleague Steven Roberts was recently invited to comment on a "debate" about diversity at a @PsychScience journal. His experience was troubling and surreal, and lays bare the very biases he studies. He describes it in this important pre-print. 1/ psyarxiv.com/xk4yu

I have been seeing lots of ads selling me things that promise to improve my child's development. Instead of feeling guilty about not buying her things, I reflected on what we know about child development and wrote this. I hope this helps others let go of the guilt, too!
