First it was a debate. Then it was one candidate. Then it became a forum. Then another candidate was invited. Then he was removed. They tried to avoid a messy debate and created a messier non-debate. These have been the criteria all along - since the event was scheduled sometime last year - and all the candidates knew it. If this guy will gaslight Florida Republican voters over this, why should we believe he will be honest about anything? It’s not RPOF’s fault that you are an unpopular candidate with no shot at winning the primary.

The chairman of the party should not be insulting the intelligence of Republican voters. A debate was promised and these ridiculous criteria are being used to renege on that promise and to engineer a preferred outcome. Why not just take 90 minutes, find a tv partner, and let the candidates mix it up? The only reason why you wouldn’t is if the party hierarchy is serving outside interests instead of the best interests of the voters.

This is the real problem. A debate is supposed to test the candidates BEFORE Republican voters are asked to trust them with the general election. If the @FloridaGOP standards were never clearly announced, campaigns were never properly notified, and the result is a "one candidate stage", then voters are getting a safe-space protected presentation. And that should worry Republicans. Because Florida’s next governor will have to defend the @RonDeSantis record under pressure: property taxes, insurance, growth, water, power, education, immigration, and everything coming next. If a candidate cant even be tested in a Republican primary, how exactly is he supposed to be tested in November? At least @JayCollinsFL is willing to stand there, answer the questions, and make the case whenever and wherever. That's the real difference. A debate with two candidates is a debate. A debate with three candidates is a debate. A debate with one candidate is a TED Talk with better lighting. And Florida Republicans deserve more than that. Voters deserve comparison. Voters deserve answers. Voters deserve a choice. If only one candidate qualifies, perhaps the question is no longer: "Why is @ByronDonalds afraid of the debate?" Perhaps the real question is: Why is the @FloridaGOP afraid of letting Republican voters see one?
