Absolutely bonkers to have an ITALIAN Pied Flycatcher breeding in one of the boxes at Brook Wood! Only 2 records of 🇮🇹 pieds seen in 🇬🇧 ever. She's happily sitting on a clutch of 7 eggs, monitored for @_BTO#NRS.

This Cuckoo nestling, ringed in a Meadow Pipit nest last summer by Ellie Ness of our #BTO nest recording group in the New Forest was recaptured just 33 days later on the German island of Helgoland. Only the 5th British ringed Cuckoo to be found in Germany.
Just over 40 people came to our @MoorMeadows training day today at Holne, Dartmoor. After an indoor session, we put the theory into practice, finding 13 nests at Brook Manor-a great result and the most nests yet this season! Thank you everyone who came/helped organise everything!
Fantastic to see another potentially wintering Devon #curlew! 1of our #DCWRG tagged #curlew is also a #SAVcurlew breeder. Collaboration between wintering and breeding projects joins up our understanding of the threats birds face across their annual cycle @DevonBirds#ornithology
The first of our tagged Curlews has left the Severn & Avon Vales (in Worcestershire). Yellow AY migrated down the Severn out over the Bristol Channel and is now in Devon #Migration#SAVCurlew@DevonBirds @WorcsBirding @Worcs_bird
Great fun helping with the @EcoSoc_Penryn ringing demo this morning 🐦💚 Always a joy to talk people about the @_BTO ringing scheme and the wealth of data it provides, plus share the excitement of seeing our amazing birds so close! @BTO_Cornwall#CitizenScience#BTOYouth
What a fantastic afternoon, 60 snipe, 70 wigeon, 40 teal, 2 shoveler and 9 farmers and keepers from the Lower Avon Farmer Cluster. Talking #farming and #conservation along the way!
Major overhaul of the #birdringing within-group movements app (tinyurl.com/7hhdm433), which uses your @BTO DemON data & searches for movements between your own sites, otherwise easily missed. The app now gives you more information, and has more options to explore your data.
We’ve got a survey coming up on Sunday 5th December near Buckfastleigh, details below. If you fancy coming, please let us know: last time we found over 25 nests on just one field, so fingers crossed for lots this year too! #HMNestFest
Spreeuwen die uitrusten op de kotter. We zien dit bijna elk jaar rond deze tijd wel eens. Maar dit zijn er wel heel veel. #spreeuwen#noordzee#kotter#NG21
104 days after been fined £90m for dumping sewage into the environment and less than 12 hours after Gov voted to protect water companies and not our rivers, @SouthernWater were dumping sewage at 60, yes 60, different locations along the south coast of England.

Here it is! I'm super excited to share our Richard's Pipit story just released in @CurrentBiology. 3 years ago, we started to monitor this enigmatic species in S France and here are the first results (and first tracks 🥳): tinyurl.com/3kmf9fpc Some details in this thread. 1/
Our NEW PAPER with @piedflynet @stuBearhop @biobriedis Joan Castello Sophie Bell & Myriam El Harouchi describes annual migration of British breeding Pied flycatchers tracked with #geolocatorsbit.ly/3EFNAps
Kittiwake, gannet, razorbill and more feeding on a bait ball just off the isle of Rum earlier this week 🐟 an awesome sight, an even louder sound! #ExeterRewildingFC#seabirds#Scotland
My @_BTO ringing totals app (tinyurl.com/npks6e3n) is now updated to include the recently released 2020 totals. Kent has overtaken Norfolk & Suffolk, & whilst Covid hit overall ringing totals a bit (c.-10%) it particularly hit earlier nesting species like Dipper and Raven.
17M UK households spend £250M on 150K tonnes of bird food annually. Great if you are a dominant species like a Blue Tit but what about if you are subordinate species like a Willow Tit?
