Cutting American science and research is not a good idea--it's dangerous. When we know less, we are less prepared for the next threat. Most are in agreement; science can save lives. So why does the president continue to risk our safety?

While foreign-owned utility companies like NYSEG & Central Hudson are raking in record profits and sending millions overseas, folks in Upstate New York are rationing medicine and picking up a second job or extra shifts just to keep the lights on. It’s robbery. I pressed @SecretaryWright to join our fight and help BAN foreign corporations from owning American utilities. Your money should stay in your pocket and our community, not line the pockets of executives halfway around the world.

I told the Secretary of Energy that data centers double our utility costs in Northern Virginia and he had no intelligible response.

WATCH: I challenged the Energy Secretary after he repeatedly refused to acknowledge a simple fact: daytime solar is the cheapest source of electricity available today. But, this debate is about more than energy prices. It's about whether America will lead the industries of the future or fall behind our global competitors.

Trump's Energy Secretary couldn't answer how it benefits Americans to cancel clean energy projects across the country. Canceling clean energy isn't efficiency. It's a political agenda at Americans' expense.

.@SecretaryWright admitted it: Trump broke his promise to bring down energy costs. In fact, prices are going up.  Rhode Islanders have spent $288 more on heating oil and $350 more on gas since the start of Trump’s war of choice with Iran. We can't afford this Trump surcharge.

Too many Oregonians and Americans are struggling to pay their energy bills, but Trump's Department of Energy is making it worse. They slashed more than 400 million dollars from clean energy projects in our state and Energy Secretary Wright said that prices are going to be “high and maybe even rising.” The Department of Energy should care about the American people, not just their fossil fuel friends.   @sciencedems

Mr. Secretary, firing 85 percent of your clean energy project staff does not improve "project management." It abandons American leadership in the affordable energy solutions we need.  @sciencedems

Houston has been hit by disaster after disaster. Families have lost homes, businesses, & loved ones. Now Trump's Secretary of Energy wants to tell us hurricanes and floods aren't getting worse? Climate change is real, if he believes otherwise, he's welcome to come to Houston and explain it to the families still rebuilding after these storms. @sciencedems

WRIGHT: He's an entertaining, hyperbolic guy who has done tremendous leadership SYKES: So it sounds like you're unaware that President Trump just said he 'loves inflation'
