Post the recent Prime Minister’s @narendramodi address to citizens during the #crisis, he had requested several behavioural changes — including reducing unnecessary private vehicle usage. We later saw #PM Modi himself reducing convoy size and discussions around inducting more #electric #vehicles into official movements. After that, Maharashtra CM @Dev_Fadnavis was also seen moving with a bike convoy. That made me imagine something different for Tamil Nadu. Since @CMOTamilnadu has always been associated with #cycling, what if he decides to ride to the Secretariat once a week on a cycle or electric cycle? Not on empty VIP roads. Not with massive convoy culture. Just moving with the city — office-goers, women riders, buses, autos, pedestrians, regular traffic — all co-existing on Chennai roads. @TVKVijayHQ @actorvijay @AadhavArjuna @arunraajkg @omjasvinMD @karthickselvaa 🚲

The recent moves by National Ministries, Delhi, Maharashtra, and other governments are genuinely welcome. -Ministers taking the metro and buses. -Convoy sizes being cut by 50%. -Integrated bus-metro plans with NCMC cards for government employees. If this is possible today, why shouldn’t it become the norm tomorrow? Why wait for a crude oil price spike or a Middle East conflict to promote public transport, reduce convoys, and to do the right thing? -Every minister taking public transport once a week. -Every official using shared mobility. -Every convoy right-sized permanently. -Every city integrating buses, metro, and feeder services as a default, not as an exception. The infrastructure exists and will get prioritised to be improved. Let’s not treat this as a one-off gesture. Let’s treat it as a long-overdue shift in how we move. @CMOTamilnadu @TVKVijayHQ @arunraajkg What is the plan for Tamil Nadu? A CM who takes a bus or cycle to work would be inspiring. @reclaimchennai | @TN_Streets | @Ahmedshabbir20 @omjasvinMD #PublicTransport #SustainableMobility

If convoy sizes can be cut down overnight, then why were we waiting for an energy crisis to do it?

Hon’ble CM Vijay, @CMOTamilnadu Among the many things you spoke about in your emotional first speech after taking oath, it was encouraging to hear you emphasise #streets and #publictransport as priority focus areas and you will give personal attention to this . These are everyday issues that directly impact common people, yet they have often remained under-prioritised. As #Chennai and #TamilNadu continue to grow, making our #cities livable cannot happen only through vehicle growth and road expansion. We need stronger focus on #walking, #cycling, #publictransport, #first and #last mile connectivity, and #cleanmobility. Some decisions may feel difficult in the short term, but they are necessary to build #healthier, #safer, and more #people-friendly cities. Today, mobility is no longer only about #commuting from one place to another. The way people move is directly connected to #publichealth, mental well-being, air quality, and quality of life. When people walk more, cycle more, and use public transport, they are indirectly becoming more active, healthier, and connected to the city around them. Strong first and last mile connectivity can also make public transport more #practical, #accessible, and #attractive for everyday users. You have always inspired people through #cycling and #fitness. Today, as the people’s leader, you have the ability to make #walking, #cycling, #bus use, and active mobility #aspirational for the #next generation ( you #Kutties , #Nanba -#Nanbies) . Tamil Nadu now needs you to become the #brand #ambassador for pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users, and the #vulnerable #communities who use our streets every day. I think with your attention and leadership, we can soon make walking, cycling, public transport, first and last mile connectivity, and clean mobility the true #superstars of mobility in Tamil Nadu and we would love to see you using them with #people when ever you get time . @actorvijay @CMOTamilnadu @arunraajkg @AadhavArjuna @MtcChennai @CumtaOfficial @cmrlofficial @chennaicorp @Guidance_TN @CMDA_Official @the_hindu @TOIIndiaNews

Here is a quick dose of #IntegratedTransit inspiration from Bhubaneswar (more photos in the thread). We see so many plans on paper—here’s what it looks like when those plans survive the real world. Bringing to life, good street design isn't glamorous work—it's hard-fought coordination between agencies, a lot of site visits & plenty of drama often spread across years. We often forget that these "wins" aren't accidents. They are the result of years of invisible work—by planners, engineers, and city officials who showed up, argued for better, and refused to settle for the status quo. A salute to the countless hands that made this project happen. This is painful to read: Bengaluru needs 25 new underpasses, 35 flyovers and 101 skywalks amongst other things to ease congestion apparently as per this study by Traffic Police. Wonder why air taxis and road widening is not in the list of menu items. A perfect reflection similar to most cities on how the vision and approach is siloed across city agencies @GBAChiefComm @DULTBangalore

Pune: Pashan Sus Pedestrian Stretch done during Streets4People Challenge is removed due to an upcoming grade separator. From Sardar Patel Road in Chennai, some stretches in Amdavad, instances of grade separators and road widening taking over good pedestrian spaces is unfortunate

6.The electric bus service will be extended to the cities of Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Tirunelveli, Erode and Thanjavur. Dedicated charging stations will be set up in each city. This will reduce air pollution in the city, control transport emissions and move the state towards the target of 30% vehicle electrification by 2030. 7.Necessary measures will be taken to protect people from the increasing heat during the summer season due to climate change. 8. Tamil Nadu is the first state to declare heatwave as a state calamity. Following this, District Heat Officers will be appointed in all districts and cities. These Heat Officers will be responsible for operating cooling camps, issuing heat alerts at the district level, coordinating emergency medical assistance and ensuring workplace safety during heat events.
