Forecast confidence continues to grow that a significant snowstorm will impact a much of the Carolinas into Southeast Virginia this weekend, with greater uncertainty farther up the coast.

Snow falling on Acorn Street in Beacon Hill tonight, one of Boston’s most iconic streets, now right in the middle of Winter Storm #Fern. This storm is still on track to bring 18–24 inches of snow to parts of the city and surrounding communities. The cold air means lighter, fluffy snow, but that also means it accumulates fast and visibility drops quickly when the heavier bands move through. Plows are out in force across the city, salt trucks are working nonstop, and conditions will continue to change quickly as the heaviest #snow moves in late afternoon into early evening. Brief periods of 2–3 inches per hour remain possible. It’s beautiful out here, no question. But the impacts are real. Plan ahead. Take it slow. Stay safe.
