Next part of Gems of HD-BRTS In a 26 January 2026 article by Prajavani, the BRTS MD said that we have called a tender and all the issues will be fixed in 15 days. Today is 6th June 2026, and not even a single issue is fixed by BRTS. Chigari buses are maintained by NWKRTC, and as per the NWKRTC MD, many buses are repaired, and 88 buses are operational now. NWKRTC authorities are more approachable to the public compared to BRTS. Even our elected representatives failed to bring funding for HD-BRTS. The bus fleet has not been upgraded since the launch of BRTS. But the maintenance of BRTS stations, BRTS and mixed corridors, boom barriers, signals, streetlights, etc. is not fixed till now. The MD has lost count of how many times "15 days" has been repeated since January 2026. If citizens ask again, we may be assured another "1–2 weeks" for repairs. In August 2025, BRTS issue was raised during the zero hours in HDMC by corporator Shivu Hiremath. BRTS MD was invited to attend the HDMC session, and when the MD didn't attend, corporators became angry and said "HD-BRTS MD has shown disrespect to Mayor and HDMC by not attending the HDMC meeting". BRTS PRO said that due to meeting in the DC office, MD couldn't attend the meeting. Gems of Hubballi-Dharwad BRTS authorities. @arunkbh covered a story on the lack of functional streetlights across the BRTS corridor on March 4, 2026 and he brought it to the notice of BRTS MD. The MD gave a statement that work is in progress to fix the streetlights and no fund crunch. MD also said in March that Navalur flyover lights will be operational in 15 days. But that was fully operational by mid/end of April 2026. Till now, many stretches are completely dark as BRTS authorities completely failed to repair non-functional streetlights. Stretches like RTO to Rayapur, Ozone hotel to Lakamanahalli, Sattur to Navalur bridge, Vidyagiri etc are completely dark. BRTS hasn't handed over the streetlights to HDMC. HDMC is suitable authority to fix those lights. Why is BRTS MD repeatedly giving misleading statements. If not aware of the timeline, why is an unrealistic timeline given in the statements? Simple streetlight repair is taking 3 months means it's a failure of administration. In January 2026, Deccan Herald covered a story on the lack of working boom barriers across BRT lane and MD said that it'll be fixed soon. On 18th May 2026, another story was covered on issues of BRTS like bus AC issue, boom barriers and MD told that book barriers will be fixed in a week. It's been almost two weeks and not even a single boom barrier is working. MD is busy in giving misleading statements and not serious to get these issues fixed. I don't know on what basis a 1 week timeline to fix boom barriers. The public are already fed up with repeated assurances and missed timelines. If BRTS MD is not interested in addressing the basic issues, MD can request for a transfer or step aside to make way for others to take charge rather than troubling the public with pathetic administration.
