Agricultural researchers often talk about “participatory research and development” working alongside farmers to design tools, practices, and innovations that actually work in the field. In the past, too much was designed for farmers, instead of with them. I'm in Ethiopia for #UNFSS4, a pivotal moment to assess global progress on transforming our #foodsystems and to push for bold, urgent action toward achieving the 2030 Agenda. The 2025 Stocktaking is spotlighting country-led solutions, tracking global and national commitments, and helping unlock the financing needed to build food systems that are more equitable, resilient, and nourishing. After the conference, I’ll be visiting with farmers and farmers' organizations across the country—exploring incredible examples of agricultural innovation, climate-smart practices, and community-led transformation on the ground.
