I work for a national government agency in France and as far as I know, they do not take any overhead off my grants. At least that's not something I include in my budgets... (And yes, that can include PhD students.)

So universities make research professors pay for their entire salary & research through grant funding, but then the university also takes a cut of your grant funding? Seems like youβd have to always apply for grants, so when do you do research? Is this why youβre all kinda grumpy

How do I avoid #burnout ?
By having managers. I always want to say yes to everything. But I need to discuss with my supervisors & that helps us all prioritize projects, grants, conferences, etc instead of trying to do Everything Everywhere All At Once

I've said it before but if you don't want to stay in #academia, #industry is not your only option! There are really awesome jobs in #government, including #Research jobs, often in collaboration with universities, co-supervising students etc.
