And yet light and airy. The more I look at it with the charcoal grays and the butcherblock countertop, the more I like it.

I prefer butcherblock - not the one they did - way to light colored and too many small pieces but I wouldn't replace granite if i already had it.

Granite is brittle and requires regular maintenance to keep it looking good. You can drop a hammer on butcherblock and it doesn't care. If it gets ugly after a few years, you can sand off a layer and reseal. There's definitely some advantages, and some may prefer the aesthetics.

Had ALL the stuff to redo my kitchen sink area, but haven't cut the butcherblock for the sink. It's been over a year, but... Today I said "F*ck it," & installed the new light fixture ANYWAY. Let there be light. Could land aircraft in the sink now. Not that you'd want to.

The only legitimate reason I can see doing this is to "test" the concept and see if you like the look of it before destroying the granite to replace it with real butcherblock countertops.

I'm cool with the cabinets, but butcherblock is so cheap, should have used the real deal.

One of the most basic “class” markers I learned about what that natural materials are preferred to synthetic. Cotton and wood over polyester. Granite and butcherblock over Corian, wood siding over vinyl or aluminum. But those require more labor to make and maintain
The basic materials used were attractive by nature, as all natural materials are. Also the value of time and labor was near zero so the effective "cost" of making decoration was almost irrelevant.

The last house I remodeled I used that Jadeitte green for the cabinets, light oak hardwood floors and butcherblock countertops in a close shape to match the floors.

It IS a butcherblock table! And I cut it to size to fit in the closet and I live in colorado so everything is dry ASF to begin with so it def helps, and on top of that, the exhaust fan takes any warm air w/ moisture and sends it to, plus there's a window next to the pc too!

You want to do it right? Get a heavy duty platform from UPLIFT, and butcher block island top from Lowes or HD. You get the best of both worlds; legs made to hold a lot of weight and a REAL WOOD butcherblock top. You can also get the top from UL. 100% satisfied with mine.
