Entrepreneur's 14-year fight for R1m a day business with government's entity The People's Eye Podcast #entrepreneurship #entrepreneurmindset #entrepreneur Mr Motsile Rahube bought a fresh food wholesale market in Polokwane, Limpopo province, in 2012 with a loan from the National Empowerment Fund (NEF). The business was turning over R600 000 a day when he took over and he increased the daily turnover to R1 million. He however claims that he discovered that the sellers of the business, who had stayed for 12 months to handover the business, were siphoning funds. Rahube appointed a forensic audit company that confirmed his suspicions. The NEF, he says, ignored him when he raised concerns about the funds. Rahube says that since he raised the alarm, the NEF has been vehemently trying to remove him from the business. He has been fighting for 14 years. Rahube's experience is not isolated. Many entrepreneurs funded by other government development finance institutions such as the Industrial Development Corporation have claimed being sabotaged and bulldozed into giving up. A few weeks ago, a forestry business entrepreneur claimed that the NEF had done the same to him. Themba Ntuli, the director of Khulani Forests (Pty) Ltd and Khulani Swawmills, claimed that the NEF shut down his business without a court order following a veld fire. The NEF, Ntuli says, closed the business even though he had received disaster funding from the Department of Agriculture.
