Sponsored by @aBiDevtFinance
One of the standout sessions on Day 2 of the 7th
@FITSPA Annual Fintech Conference 2025 was the panel discussion themed โESG as a Key Driver of Sustainable Growth in Digital Financial Services,โ proudly sponsored by aBi Finance.
Moderated by
@NoahOwomugisha, Head of Impact and Sustainability at @aBiDevtFinance, the session brought together thought leaders from across the financial and fintech ecosystem:
@RoselynNajjuma (
@StanChartUGA),
@CharlesKabanda Ssentamu (Centenary Bank),
@VincentT (FutureLink Technologies &
@FITSPA Chairperson), and Delia Dean (Digital Economy Inclusion Expert).
The panel explored how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles can drive innovation, inclusion, and long-term resilience in Ugandaโs fintech ecosystem.
@VincentT emphasized that sustainability requires deliberate effort:
โWhen you are growing, youโre tempted to think things will stay that way. Itโs important that fintechs maintain good relationships with stakeholders. Sometimes, we create unnecessary competition. In the context of technology, we must scale the impact of our interventions on the environment. This not only earns goodwill but makes us champions of the ESG framework.โ
@DeliaDean highlighted that climate change, business risk, and client satisfaction are deeply interconnected:
โThrough digital financial services, we can drive inclusion and achieve sustainable growth. ESG should not just be a compliance checklist โ itโs a catalyst for innovation that ensures we take care of both the environment and our communities.โ
@CharlesKabanda Ssentamu shared Centenary Bankโs tangible strides toward sustainability:
โAt
@CentenaryBank, we measure impact through the resilience of the communities we serve. We are taking banking closer to the people through mobile solutions โ making access paperless, efficient, and inclusive. Ten of our branches are already solar-powered, and within the next five years, we aim to have all 82 branches and over 210 ATMs powered by solar.โ
@RoselynNajjuma underscored the global scale of
@StanChartUGA Bankโs sustainability agenda:
โAs
@StanChartUGA, we are dedicating USD 300 billion towards sustainability by 2030. Weโre helping businesses access sustainable finance and guiding them in analyzing their emissions. Investors are increasingly looking for strong ESG alignment โ and achieving this requires behavioral change, innovation, and supportive regulation. But most importantly, itโs achievable.โ
The discussion drew parallels with Rwandaโs widespread solar adoption, demonstrating how intentional investment in renewable energy can transform economies.
The panel concluded with a clear call to action โ fintechs must innovate not just for profit, but also for purpose โ aligning growth with environmental protection, social inclusion, and ethical governance.
