The Thai film industry is witnessing its most remarkable growth in 30 years, with local productions now accounting for 60% of box office revenue – a significant surge from just 15% in the past.
.
This is because Thai blockbusters are increasingly capturing domestic and international audiences, challenging Hollywood’s dominance in the region.
.
A standout example is “Tee Yod” (Death Whisperer), based on a story posted on social media and then published as a novel by the same author, Krittanon. Released on October 2023, “Tee Yod” became the first Thai film to gross over 500 million baht. Its sequel, “Tee Yod 2”, launched in October 2024, shattered records by earning 80 million baht on its opening day and 550 million baht within nine days. The sequel’s box-office earnings are now nearing 800 million baht, with screenings in 20 countries boosting its global appeal.
.
Producer Narit Yuwaboon of Mindatwork Co has confirmed plans for “Tee Yod 3” with Nadech Kugimiya returning to his lead role. While the plot remains under wraps, the film is slated for release on October 8, 2025, promising another thrilling chapter in the saga.
