🌿🦚 Exhibit of the Month – June 2026 🦚🌿
The Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal proudly inaugurated its Exhibit of the Month for June 2026 – “Mayur Pan Masland Madur: A Traditional Handwoven Mat.”
The exhibit was inaugurated by Shri Chittaranjan Tripathy, Director of the National School of Drama. The occasion was graced by Shri Amitabh Pandey, Director, IGRMS; Shri Sanjay Srivastava, Director, Madhya Pradesh Natya Vidyalaya; Shri Suman Vaidya from the National School of Drama, along with museum officials and staff members.
The exhibit has been curated by Dr. Sudipa Roy, who has thoughtfully highlighted the historical, cultural, and social significance of this distinctive craft tradition of West Bengal through a research-based perspective.
Collected by the Museum in 1998, this exquisite handcrafted mat from the Mahishya community of Midnapur, West Bengal, beautifully reflects India’s rich craft traditions. Adorned with elegant peacock motifs, floral patterns, and betel-leaf designs, the GI-tagged Masland Madur is celebrated for its fine weaving, eco-friendly materials, artistic excellence, and cultural significance.
More than a craft object, the Masland Madur symbolizes the creativity of rural women artisans, sustainable living practices, and the enduring legacy of India's living traditions.
