A bold new mathematical model drawing from the physics of disordered materials like glass has just been applied to 12,000 years of human population data, and the results are both fascinating and sobering! Published in Chaos, Solitons and Fractals, the Trachenko-Zaccone equation successfully reproduces major population growth patterns from the Neolithic era to the modern age using a single nonlinear parameter, naturally capturing both the explosive industrial era expansion and the slower growth trend observed since 1970. While the current global trajectory remains relatively stable, a worst-case scenario modeling a sudden drop in Earth's sustainable carrying capacity to around 2 billion people due to climate collapse, pandemics or resource shortages predicts that humanity could halve in population by approximately 2064. The researchers stress this is not a forecast but a mathematical illustration of just how sensitive our civilization's future may be to sudden environmental shocks. 🌍📉🔬🧮 #PopulationScience #MathematicalModeling #ClimateChange #FutureOfHumanity #Demography #CondensedMatterPhysics #GlobalWarming #ScienceResearch #ComplexSystems #EnvironmentalCrisis phys.org/news/2026-05-mathem… sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

⏰ It's now 17 days to go to the highly anticipated Data for Health in Africa Meeting and 5th DS-I Africa Consortium Meeting at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana (@UnivofGh) from the 23rd–29th August 2025. 🤝 This landmark event is jointly funded by the Wellcome Trust(@wellcometrust) and The National Institutes of Health (@NIH). ‼️ The meeting is open to Wellcome Trust and DSI-Africa grantees. ℹ️ This year’s theme is “Data Science in Africa: Strengthening Partnerships and Collaboration across Networks, Sectors and Impact Areas”. 💬 Meet one of our exhibitors: Dr. Kobus Herbst is a Director of Population Science and faculty member at the Africa Health Research Institute (@AHRI_News). He chairs the interim Steering Committee of the Africa Population Cohort Consortium and co-leads the Wellcome Trust funded award for the APCC start-up. He is a member of the Scientific Steering Committee of the International Health Cohorts Consortium (@IHCCGlobal) and the H3Africa Consortium Data and Biosample Access Committee. He is honorary chief scientist at the South African Medical Research Council and the past Director of the DSI-funded South African Population Research Infrastructure Network (SAPRIN). SAPRIN is hosted by the South African Medical Research Council and funds the population and health surveillance at seven nodes (Agincourt, Mpumalanga; DIMAMO Limpopo, AHRI rural KZN, GRT-INSPIRED Gauteng, C-SHARP WC, USINGA urban KZN, BAMMISHO peri-urban North West). Kobus graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Pretoria in 1979, did a masters in Bioengineering at the University of Cape Town and registered as a public health physician in 1994 following a registrarship at MEDUNSA. 🌐 For more information please scan the QR code in the flyer or go to: lnkd.in/eWEzjUEG #DSIAfrica #DSIAfrica2025 #DataScience #DataHealth #Datathon #DataEthics #Africa #Genomics #Networking #ECR #AfricanInnovation #Health #DataAnalysis #Research #PopulationScience

Whether its light, moderate, or vigorous intensity physical activity for cardiovascular disease, it all makes a difference against mortality. Findings from this great paper demonstrated that a significant inverse relationship between physical activity (all intensity levels) and mortality risk in CVD patients. Notably, light physical activity plays a protective role, comparable to moderate physical activity and vigorous activity, in reducing mortality risks, challenging the notion that health benefits can only be achieved with by moderate and vigorous physical activity. Healthcare providers should encourage their patients to engage in ALL forms of exercise intensity not only for health benefits but for better exercise adherence as well. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3908… #exerciseismedicine #cardiovasculardisease #heart #publichealth #mortality #cancer #disease #chronicdisease #accelerometer #physicalactivity #ischemia @escardio @ESCardioNews @WHO #stroke #movement #heartfailure #cancer #lifestyle #prevention #treatment #exercisephysiology #exercisephysiologist #clinicalexericsephysiology #clinicalexercisephysiologist #exerciseoncology #exerciseoncologist #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapist #hypertension #diet #nutrition #health #diabetes #depression #populationscience #preventionscience #vo2 #fitness #aerobic #strengthtraining #musclestrength #physicalhealth #physicalfitness @CEPAupdates @ACSMNews @AmericanCancer @ESSA_NEWS

#PopulationScience Today Mohan Bhagwat has also given a statement on this that the decline in population is a matter of concern. Modern population science says that when the population of a society goes below 2.1, that society vanishes from the earth, no one will kill it. That society gets destroyed even when there is no crisis. In this way many languages and societies got destroyed. The population should not go below 2.1, our country's population policy was decided in 1998 or 2002. But it is also said in this that the population of a society should not be less than 2.1. Now a human being cannot take birth after point one, so we need more than two, three, this is what population science says. And this is also true. Today the condition of countries like Japan, Europe, Korea, China is bad in this matter. Their population is continuously decreasing. And if this continues, then the battle of economy which they are fighting, they are fighting for someone else because they will not be there in the future. The same is the case with America. So, it is not necessary to just become the biggest trillionaire but to be on earth to enjoy that economy is also necessary. Otherwise the bullies will be enjoying the fruits of your hard work of centuries. @DrMohanBhagwat @ocjain4
