some notes from
@ethcc week:
- this was the first year i spent more time at side events than the main event. there were lots of great impact-focused events.
- i LOVE unconference/participatory spaces (provided they have strong facilitation),
@FundingCommons @schellingpoint_ @regensunite etc
- one area im struggling with is what to do with people who dont show up mindfully to those spaces. id like to figure out how to develop more facilitation skills here.
- some of the sessions i found to be beautiful/novel:
@regensunite discussions, the
@Kernel0x mind/body guild,
@cryptowanderer sessions on "how would you explain money to an alien?"
- i had a few interactions with locals that after learning i only spoke english i found them be somewhat rude. maybe im just awkward. maybe i should learn some french, but id like to learn it because im inspired by the language/culture not to avoid assholes.
- i had many wonderful interactions with people in the regen web3 space who bring meaningful new perspectives to the conversation that will likely turn into upcoming greenpill episodes. right now my content priorities are dapps with traction, global south, novel perspectives, etc.
- the public goods web3 space is wonderfully pluralistic with
@artizen @Giveth launching QF
@projectoctant now here. i expect this trend will continue to grow, and predict there is even room for an aggregator to help ppl track impact/earning oppies across all these tools.
- i gave 4 different original talks and found the agility challenge of that to be fun. but i dont think ill do it again. i hope to be more focused in my talks
@devconnect
- the dream of microtransactions (as opposed to ads/attention economy) is now possible due to L2s/QF/other mechanisms. i think well see a unicorn in this category within the decade.
- i (along with
@RaidGuild) made a play in this category. so far the pilot is going mostly well. i will post a wrap up soon.
- i met a handful of
@greenpillnet chapter leads for the first time and am struck by how the vision has resonated in many places across the world. im excited to deploy funding to the chapters help build a global impact memetic/funding network.
- i was on a panel about impact institutions, which was a pleasant discussion about how to translate impact web3 into government/ngo circles, but was struck with how much of a cultural/process/language barrier remains, i think this is a couple market cycles out still. ( my favorite quote from this event: "Asking institutions to listen to blockchain hipsters is like asking the catholic church to listen to Martin Luther")
- i was on a panel about public goods web3 ethics that i found to be quite circular, divergent, and fraught with grandstanding ( while the intentions of the participants were good, im not convinced we changed anyones minds/attitudes, and believe that projects that achieve adoption/network effects will set the tone about everything else. building ethical projects that get adoption is the highest lever we have )
- no convos about american regulation. i think the general attitude is that american innovators will inevitably get left behind this decade, and i can't say i disagree.
- lots of great convos about account abstraction, zero knowledge/privacy, and scaling. im struck with how much scaling feels mostly solved with all these L2s. zk/aa feel like the new frontier.
- i spent a lot of time trying to guide regen web3 convos towards what i perceive to be the highest leverage points for adoption/impact. im not sure there is consensus about what those highest leverage points are tho. ( i think they are public goods/impact funding, privacy aware identity, and getting ppl to onboard by earning tokens not buying shitcoins).
- a handful of
@gitcoin decentralized products and protocols have launched
@grantsstack @alloprotocol @gitcoinpassport @pgn_eth . the surface area here is broad vast, and i am excited to build in their ecosystem.
- excited about
@impact_stream - a new QF experiment in the west african nation of togo.
- as always, it was fun to see @justinholmesmusic perform!
- see you next time! โ๏ธ
