Becoming a mother as a teenager often comes with stigma, isolation, and limited opportunities, making it harder for young mothers to rebuild their confidence and secure a better future for themselves and their children. With support from ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช, our Terego office provided psychosocial counselling and livelihood skills training to 15 teenage mothers from Katrini Sub-county. Through individual and group counselling sessions, participants received support on emotional healing, self-esteem, positive parenting, and future planning, while also acquiring practical liquid soap-making skills to strengthen their economic resilience. By combining psychosocial support with livelihood opportunities, we are helping young mothers regain confidence, rebuild hope, and take meaningful steps toward a more secure future. โญ๏ธ #RDEProject

When her husband died, a 68-year-old widow in Napak inherited the family land. Years later, she found herself fighting to keep it after a neighbour attempted to extend his boundary into her property. Unable to afford a court process and feeling powerless, she turned to us for support. Through a locus mediation conducted by our Legal Officer @clare_pedun, supported by ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช, the encroachment was acknowledged, and steps were taken to restore the rightful boundary. For many widows, succession is not just about inheriting property, it is about being able to keep it. Through accessible justice services, we are helping women protect their rights, preserve their livelihoods, and secure their future with dignity. โš–๏ธ #RDEProject

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Male engagement is a critical part of advancing access to justice and transforming harmful social norms. Through the Partnerships on Accountability, Civic Engagement, and Rights Project, we also work with male Community Legal Volunteers (CLVs) who play an important role in promoting positive masculinity, supporting mediation processes, raising awareness on human rights, and encouraging men in their communities to become part of the solution. #RDEProject

๐Ÿ’ก Despite this progress, challenges remain. Cases of domestic violence, SGBV, child marriage, land conflicts, denial of property rights, and other harmful practices continue to affect many communities. This reflection meeting will strengthen the capacity of CLVs and informal justice actors, enhance referral pathways, promote peer learning, and generate practical solutions to improve access to justice for all. Session moderated by @ByaruhangaRica, Monitoring & Evaluation Manager, FIDA-Uganda. #RDEProject

๐Ÿ“Š The impact of CLVs continues to be felt across our project areas. According to the 2025 Partnerships on Accountability, Civic Engagement, and Rights Project Annual Performance Report, CLVs handled 5,448 cases, successfully resolved 4,002 cases, and referred 1,263 cases for advanced support, including 1,100 cases referred to @PoliceUg. These achievements reflect growing community trust in justice systems and improved access to support for vulnerable women, girls, and marginalized groups. #RDEProject

โš–๏ธ Community Legal Volunteers (CLVs), elders, cultural leaders, and local council leaders are often the first point of support for vulnerable people seeking justice in remote communities. They play a vital role in legal awareness creation, mediation, referrals, community mobilization, and follow-up of cases involving gender-based violence, child protection, land disputes, domestic violence, and other human rights violations. #RDEProject

Access to justice took a significant step forward in Napak District with the launch of the ๐’๐ฆ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐‚๐ฅ๐š๐ข๐ฆ๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐œ๐ž๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐žby the Judiciary and the operationalisation of the Napak Grade I Court. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Designed to help individuals resolve simple civil disputes quickly, affordably, and without the need for legal representation. By allowing parties to use their mother tongue and ensuring cases are concluded within a short timeframe, the procedure makes justice more accessible to ordinary citizens. For the people of Napak, this development means reduced travel costs, fewer delays, and improved access to court services closer to home. It also strengthens the ability of community members to seek redress for monetary disputes and other civil matters, bringing justice within reach for those who need it most. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ #RDEProject

Because effective conflict resolution starts within communities, our legal associate, @ALakwech, under the Partnerships on Accountability, Civic Engagement, and Rights Project supported by ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช, utilised a locus mediation to peacefully resolve a land dispute involving a vulnerable landowner facing eviction threats. Conducted directly on the disputed land alongside local leaders and community members, the mediation helped clarify boundaries, strengthen awareness on land rights, and secure a peaceful settlement, including an alternative access arrangement for the affected road section. The intervention reflects the importance of community-based and non-adversarial justice mechanisms in protecting vulnerable populations. #RDEProject

In Arua City, FIDA-Uganda and @ceforduganda under the Partnerships on Accountability, Civic Engagement, and Rights Project, reached 83 community members with practical legal awareness on land and property rights, succession, and GBV, while providing on-site legal aid to those in need. This is key because legal knowledge, harmful norms, and lack of documentation continue to expose women to property grabbing, disinheritance, and GBV. Through open community dialogue, participants didnโ€™t just learn, they shared real experiences, asked questions, and received immediate legal support. With support from ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช, this work continues to break barriers to justice at community level. #RDEProject

In a small manyatta outside Kaabong, a baby girl was born into silence because she was not the son her family had hoped for. The neighbours began calling her โ€œNyoโ€, meaning โ€œWhy?โ€ As in, โ€œWhy did you come?โ€ Her story is painful, but it is not hopeless. Across Karamoja, harmful beliefs about girls continue to deny some children the love, care, and dignity they deserve. Yet change begins with small acts: a conversation, a parent choosing differently, a community standing up for every child. With support from ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช, we will provide counselling to help this family understand that girls are not a burden, they are a blessing, full of worth, promise, and potential. #RDEProject
