📣 Last week, we had the honour of welcoming at CMMI the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Mr. Costas Kadis, together with his Cabinet, officials from the Commonwealth Secretariat, the High Commissioner of Cyprus to the UK, Dr. Kyriacos Kouros, and the Ambassador of France to Cyprus, Mrs. Clélia Chevrier Kolačko.
💡 The visit began with a presentation by our CEO, Mr. Zacharias Siokouros, highlighting CMMI’s cutting-edge research and innovation activities, as well as the importance of our
#interdisciplinary approach across centres and scientific fields — what we like to call CMMI’s “magic potion.” This was followed by a tour of our Voroklini campus, showcasing our state-of-the-art research infrastructure. 🌊⚓
The evening concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere with a BBQ dinner, celebrating a memorable milestone: the official
#inauguration of CMMI’s Voroklini
#campus by Commissioner Kadis, Ambassador Chevrier Kolačko, and High Commissioner Kouros.
💡 In line with our
#commitment to the sustainability of the marine environment, we also introduced our honoured guests to the importance of tackling non-indigenous species through an unusual yet delicious experience — a
#Lionfish soup.
While eradicating alien invasive species in the
#marine environment is impossible once they have established themselves, encouraging the consumption of safe, edible species such as the lionfish offers a sustainable way to help manage their population, while providing consumers with valuable amino acids and omega-3. 🐠
