Sigh. More poor journalism on this topic. Sensationalist headline with content that does not match the claim and shows no deep understanding of the topic.

Agreed. It's a bait-and-switch where the lede & narrative scream AI but don't match the graphs and figures at all, which focus on how hiring has dropped and outsourcing has soared. We're having a great discussion of the procurement realities (poor) in the SU forum on FB.

I agree the stats are interesting, but the title and lede are ridiculous. Skewed harum-scarum stuff. Better to focus on the rise in demand and tech's role in addressing the drudgery, plus the skilled human edge for mission-critical work. That's where the future lies.

This piece by Politico provides solid statistics on MT's (not AI's) impact on EU language services hiring over the last decade (17% drop) but outsourcing jumped from 26% to 37% over that same period. Narrative is a jumbled mess, but stats are interesting. tinyurl.com/yc59b9vt

On a different topic altogether, I wanted to elevate awareness on the attached piece just published by @rpiercecreative on the ATA Business Practices Blog. It's a look at how AI can be used intelligently in service of the work of professional translators. tinyurl.com/2f9ytz3a

I agree with Karen. Maybe it's worthwhile to continue as a watercooler-like space - but it was increasingly difficult to find curators. On the other hand we might be able to use the account for a completely different purpose - obviously a positive one for xl8 world. Any ideas?

Like 1 week could be curated by someone who translates for self-published authors and they could talk about that process and use hashtags that would attract self-published authors. (And the same idea if the topic of the week was medical interpreting or whatever).

It might just be me, but I'm not sure it was spelled out to the curators that their audience was people outside the T&I world. I'd suggest a more targeted approach with mentions and hashtags aimed at the particular group or topic of the week.

It was great but it really ended up being conversation among ourselves, didn't it?
