“I was previously married to a minister, and about a year into the marriage, I found out that he had sexually abused two children. When going through that situation, even as a third party, I discovered that anyone involved, even on the perimeter of a situation like that, is deeply marked.”
Last week,
#TreysLaw advocate Caryn Jenkins bravely shared testimony in a Louisiana Senate Judiciary Committee hearing of Senate Bill 185 and disclosed her ex-husband’s sexual abuse of two children. Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee reconvened for a second hearing of Trey’s Law, where the bill was reported favorably with a UNANIMOUS committee vote. The bill will now move to the Senate Floor for a vote.
This testimony serves as a powerful reminder that the amount of people affected by childhood sexual abuse is vast - no matter if they are abuse survivors or witnesses to abuse like Caryn.
TAKE ACTION: If you live in Louisiana, please contact your state legislators to advocate for the prompt passage of
#SB185 in the Senate as an urgent matter of public safety.
