🌱 Lessons from ZuGrama: A 6-Week Experiment in Decentralized Co-Creation Earlier this year, I spent six weeks in Kerala, India with 100 researchers, founders, and builders at ZuGrama — a participatory popup village inspired by the values of Web3: decentralisation, autonomy, transparency, and collective coordination. Having joined multiple such popup villages the past year, I’ve come to appreciate the power of these experimental spaces to create, test, and evolve transformative ideas and technologies in rapid time. ZuGrama stood out for its clarity of purpose, focus on public-goods and deep local involvement: 👉🏽 Mission: catalyze tech innovation in India with a focus on positive-sum public goods 👉🏽 Participant Selection: double-blind review process to ensure alignment on vision and values 👉🏽 Representation: ~80% Indian participants, building a network for homegrown innovation 🧠 The energy of ZuGrama was incredible: • Daily talks and workshops across science, law, ethics, and tech • Hackathons and a 6-week “buildathon” • A full microbiome study conceived, funded, and executed on-site @microbiomedao • Art, movement, music, reflection, and rest This was coordination at the edge of possibility. For @OHMcollective, I shared how Metavaluation & #WISDOMsystem can connect diverse communities through interoperable values-driven metrics, speaking during both the Decentralized Science and Governance weeks organised by @suramya and @IncompleteRules, respectively. We then teamed up with 12 other residents to co-create a working prototype, valuing diverse ZuGrama contributions—everything from talks and admin to financial contributions—and validating its potential for popup villages. 📝 Want to go deeper? Had such a great time presenting at the Regen Hub, #Devcon 2024 🌱 This talk introduces our work at @OHMcollective to develop an open source collective valuation protocol, highlighting how it could incentivise public goods funding and kickstart a regenerative economy. I share data from the @aimos_inc #openscience conference, showing how the community valued diverse contributions, recognised contributors, and measured collective gratitude for money and other contributions. I also share data from @OHMcollective, @FundingCommons, and Logische Phantasie — showing how the #WisdomSystem allows diverse communities to connect on shared values and recognise cross-border contributions in standardized, interoperable units. Inspired by the Regen Hub, I close by speculating on how we could give nature a voice by role playing different elements and representing environmental value from the perspective of nature itself. 🌏 Thanks to @regensunite for creating such an inclusive and caring space to share.
